Dr.Silas Gyar, the rector of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia has debunked the wide spread rumor over the payment of percentage salary to some embattled staff of the institution refers to as 2011 staff.
Gyar said the payment of half salary to some estranged staff is a forgone issue reasons being that they are enjoying 100% salary payment, the headship of the State Polytechnic hinted this in an interview with selected Journalists in the state.
“Is not true that we selected some staff and pay them full salary while we pay others half salary, even in animal kingdom some animals are greater than others, in essence you know as government we have the ways of doing things”.
“All the affected staff are enjoying full salary and if you know any of them go and make inquiries, they 31 staff are not owned any dine as of this moment, our major challenge is how do we make them pensionable staff is our topmost predicament”.
“will it sound okay for somebody to work for 35 years and after retirement is not entitled to pension and gratuity ?, some nagging issues like expiration of accreditation, 2011 staff would be a thing of the past, he added that the lacuna surrounding the 2011 staff was hiccup he inherited from his predecessor.
The rector said the institution needed about N2.2m to clear the salary of 2011 staff, speaking on the autonomy accorded to tertiary institutions in the state by governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, he stated that the autonomy is at the right footing
“With this autonomy we can employ without further consultation, we can also fire without any interference, is this not autonomy? We have progressed as an institution”.
Our feelers gathered that the monthly subvention of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia which stand at N75m as monthly with a monthly overhead cost of N10.2m was shot up to about N85-N88m by the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
