Bandits Kill Nine Persons, Injure 11 In Fresh Attack On Kaduna

A fresh wave of violence has claimed the lives of at least nine people and left 11 others injured in Angwan Magaji community, Kamaru Ward, in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

The attack, which occurred around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, targeted the border community located along the Kaduna-Plateau axis, an area that has witnessed repeated security challenges in recent years.

According to community sources, armed assailants stormed the settlement while residents were asleep and opened fire, causing panic and casualties.

Local leaders said the victims included men, women and children, while those injured were rushed to medical facilities for treatment.

Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, the national publicity secretary of the Irigwe youth movement confirmed the incident, noting that many residents of the affected community are of Irigwe extraction with ancestral ties to neighbouring Plateau State.

Reacting to the attack, the national secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, condemned the killings and described the incident as another tragic setback for peace efforts in the area.

He urged security agencies to launch a thorough investigation, identify those responsible and ensure they face justice.

Auta also called on federal, state and local authorities to strengthen security presence in vulnerable communities, warning that recurring attacks were deepening fear and uncertainty among residents.

The latest assault has once again heightened concerns over insecurity in communities straddling the Kaduna and Plateau border, with residents calling for urgent government action to prevent further bloodshed.
