No Nasarawa Civil Servant is owed even a Month Salary—Al-Makura Tells NLC President

Following the revelation by governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa state that no staff in the state is owed even one month salary, universalreporters247.com findings reveals that the Governor is being economical with the truth as 31 Staff of the State Polytechnic, mostly lecturers of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia are being owed ten months salaries.

The thirty one lecturers according to a competent source were employed two months before the last accreditation of some courses by the National Board for Technical Education but subsequently their monthly wage bill was stopped.

The plight of the workers started during the last biometric and data capture exercise conducted to unveiled the faces of ghost workers by the state government.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Silas Gyar confided that 31 staff salaries is in limbo, but the state governor has assured the institution that their backlog of salaries would be cleared, this was contained in one of the interview conducted by our reporter.

The State Commissioner Of Education, Hon.Ramatu Ajuji Abubakar when contacted few months back said she is not aware of the nonpayment of thirty one lecturers but promised to investigate the matter.

The Chairman Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon.Daniel Ogazi in an interview with selected Journalists before the dissolution of the outstanding committees says the committee would invite and investigate the remote cause of the nonpayment of salaries of thirty one staff by the state government.

This platform also gathered that the house committee on education invited the chairman governing council,Ishaku Dauda,members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytecnic (ASUP) directing the Head of Service, Joseph Ancho to pay the affected staff their entitlement without further delay.

The chairman governing council, Ishaku Dauda during an interaction with Journalists averred that he was among those invited by the House Committee on Education, as he further confirmed that they are waiting for a response by the Head of Service as directed by the House of Assembly.

The Head of Service, Joseph Ancho when contacted during the visit of the national body of the Nigerian Labour Congress at Government House, Lafia declined comment when asked about what is delaying the payment of backlog of salaries of thirty one staff of the polytechnic as well the status of the thirty one staff.

Available document from the State Ministry of Finance uncovered that the monthly wage bill of the institution gulps N75 million while the monthly overhead stand N10.1 million as the record indicated this in the march salary, a competent source also unveiled that fragment of the affected staff especially whose names were omitted in the last data capture are sort out and their April and May salaries has been paid remaining their arrears, while those employed in 2011 by Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma are yet to be considered. Only time shall tell when the plight of affected staff comes to an end.
