P-GAT Unveils N300bn Mobility Project to Reduce Transport Costs in Northeast

Hanny Henry

Prime Timothy, the Chairman of P-GAT Industries Ltd., has unveiled a N300 billion Fleet Integration and Transition Programme aimed at making transportation more affordable and accessible for Nigerians, particularly residents of the Northeast, while creating thousands of jobs and boosting economic activities in the region.

Speaking at a press briefing in Numan, Adamawa State, Timothy said the initiative was designed to address the rising cost of transportation, which has continued to place a heavy burden on citizens and businesses across the country.

He explained that the programme, which will drive the adoption of electric mobility technologies, seeks to modernise the transportation sector, expand charging infrastructure and provide sustainable mobility solutions that will lower operational costs and ultimately reduce transport fares.

According to him, transportation remains a critical driver of economic growth, education, employment and market access, stressing that affordable and efficient mobility is essential for improving the quality of life of Nigerians.

Timothy announced that N150 billion, representing half of the project’s total investment, has been earmarked for Northeast Nigeria over the next three years, reflecting the company’s commitment to accelerating development in the region.

He disclosed that the programme is expected to generate about 50,000 direct jobs and an additional 50,000 indirect jobs across the transportation, logistics, technology and renewable energy sectors, thereby contributing significantly to economic growth and youth employment.

The P-GAT chairman also commended the Federal Government, security agencies, traditional institutions and local communities for their sustained efforts in improving security across the Northeast, noting that the region is becoming increasingly attractive to investors.

He said concerns over insecurity and negative perceptions had previously discouraged investments, but maintained that remarkable progress had been made in restoring peace and stability, creating a conducive environment for business and development.

“The Northeast is open for business. Investors and development partners should focus on the vast opportunities available rather than outdated narratives often amplified on social media,” Timothy said.

He further announced that the Affordable Transport and Solutions (ATRaS ) Mobility Transition Summit 2026 will hold on June 20 in Numan, where stakeholders are expected to discuss practical solutions to transportation challenges.

The summit will also feature the unveiling of the ATRaS Mobility Ecosystem, a comprehensive platform integrating electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, financing, logistics services and driver empowerment programmes aimed at transforming transportation across the region.
