Nasarawa Polytechnic Suspends Two Staff For Extortion Of Money For Material Not Publish-Rector

The rector Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia,Dr Silas Gyar has revealed that the institution in a swift move to cub indiscipline and misconduct in the school has suspended two staff accused of diverting tuition fees.

He stated this when the state commissioner of education, Ahmed Aliyu Tijjani paid an inspection visit to the institution.

He attributed the delay in the findings of the committee headed by the chairman governing council of the Polytechnic; Dauda Ishaku did not finish their findings.

The rector further opined that four other staff was suspended and later on lifted the suspension, stating that the findings are still ongoing.

He averred that the non-accreditation of courses hampered the institution, saying more is expected from the state government.

Silas Gyar listed the immediate challenges of the institution to include obsolete equipment, shortage of manpower and infrastructure, saying if the following are fulfilled the sky would be the starting point for the institution.

“Programs were ruined without due accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education, our case is that cart were put before the horse in Nasarawa State Polytechnic”.

“The Polytechnic accreditation expires since and we are looking forward for the accreditation”, he added.

The commissioner appealed to the state government to assist the school with an Engineering laboratory, as he decried the non-availability of special intervention from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund.

“Naspoly accessed the special intervention once, calling on the state government to expedite action in the completion of the twin hostel accommodation”.

Saying hostel development would boost the standard of education.

Silas Gyar commended the state government for acquiring land within the school vicinity, adding that the process ended the harassment meted on the school management landowner.

“Hostel completion would also reduce the harassment of students by landlord”.

The rector applauded the state government for the prompt payment of workers salary, he listed lack of registration by students as another serious challenges been faced as colossal amount of money was lost.
