Nasarawa Council Election: Court To Deliver Judgement On 6th June 2024.

The Chairman of the  Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, Bar. Ayuba Wandai has given the assurance that the ligation that halted the conduct of Local Government election in the State would be resolved in no distance time.

NASIEC boss explained that the State electoral Umpire despite the expiration of his tenure by October 2024 election of the new crop of Council Chairmen and Councilors could take place accordingly.

He gave the hope that an election will be held in the thirteen local and all the electoral wards of the State, He added it is visible for the commission to conduct Local Government elections this year, despite the expiration of his tenure by October 2024.

Barr. Ayuba Wandai, the Chairman of the Commission gave the hint when he led other management members to appear before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on NASIEC Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development.

According to him, “We are optimistic of conducting Local Government election in Nasarawa State this year, The Commissions boss added.

The Commission averred that it was to enable the people of the State to exercise their rights in electing new leaders of their choice at the grassroots when the tenure of the present Local Government Chairmen ends by October 2024.

Wandai buttressed that the Commission revealed this when the Chairman led other management members to appear before the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on NASIEC Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development recently.

He said a court order halted the State Independent Electoral Commission from the Federal High Court and stopped the conduct of the council election in the State.

Giving the assurance that the matter would be resolved in no distant time and that he is optimistic the matter will be put to rest very soon and election will commence.

He appreciated the committee and the State Government for supporting the commission’s activities to succeed.

“It is visible for us to conduct Local Government election as the tenure of the current elected Local Government officials will expire on October 7th, 2024

“We have released a timetable for the conduct of Local Government election in the State but it was a court order from the Federal High Court which was instituted.

Earlier, Hon. Jacob Ajegina Kudu, the House Committee on NASIEC, Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development Chairman, said they invited the commission to assess its 2024 budget performance.

He assured of the committee’s readiness to support them to succeed.

The Committee Chairman urged the commission to conduct transparent and fair Local Government elections in the State
