How Late Inspector Emmanuel Tanko Died During A Clash Between Taskforce And Roadside Traders At Terminus Market

A 48-year-old policeman identified as Tanko Emmanuel was reportedly shot to death in Ahmadu Bello Way Jos while enforcing the clearance of traders from the road on the orders of the state.

He died on the spot and was rushed to Jankwano where the Doctor confirmed him dead as confirmed by one Inspector Haruna the head of the command unit.

Information revealed that a police officer and a civilian were exchanging arguments when another security officer fired the shot his officer Tanko who is from Akwanga division in Nassarawa was instantly killed while reports said it was a stray bullet that hit him.

It would be recalled that the joint task force carried out the arrest of the roadside traders displaying goods on major roads who were previously evicted but returned to the same spots.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang intended to ensure a clean streets of terminus can be seen clean today, reminiscent of the streets of London and America, devoid of the hustle and bustle of street hawkers and those patronizing them.

According to information, the government ordered the joint task force of the Army, Police, and paramilitary that stormed the vicinity arresting many and carting away them and their belongings as evidence to be used against them. Many who evaded arrests can be seen dashing for covers.

It was also gathered that traders were tear gas and life ammunition were fired to disperse them.

It was also revealed that a member of the joint task force, a policeman was seen collapsing and rushed to the hospital who finally happened to be a victim of a stray bullet shot by one of his colleagues.

The terminus market has returned and everywhere remains calm, with the hawkers loitering the streets apprehensive of returning.

The Plateau State Police Command has released the true identity of the officer that was killed, as inspector Emmanuel Tanko and he lives in Akwanga and was on special deployment to Jos.

He was shot accidentally by one of his colleagues during sanitation of the terminus market when his troops met stiff resistance by a mob.

In an attempt to quell the mob resistance, a gunshot was fired into the air and accidentally hit Inspector Tanko.

He died instantly on the spot according to the police report and his body was deposited at Jankwano Hospital morgue.

The officer has been arrested and confined to the state CID for further investigation.

The commissioner of police extended his deep condolence to the family of the deceased and called for calm in the face of the unfortunate incident and we added a rejoinder that the illegal hawkers at the terminus market must obey the laws and find conducive areas to legally do their market to avert incidences like this in the future.
