The Chief Medical Director of the Nasarawa State Hospitals Management Board (NSHMB), Edego Egba, said the State Hospital Management Board has set up a committee to investigate the diversion of hospital equipment donated by a member representing the Ugya/Umusha constituency at the State Assembly.

Recalling that the State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, instructed the Commissioner of Health, Hon.Gaza Gwamna, to investigate the diversion of ceiling and standing fans as well as orthopedic mattresses donated by a serving member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

A lawmaker in the State donated those items to Umaisha General Hospital and later discovered they were missing.

The member representing  Ugya/Umaisha State Constituency in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly opined that he donated orthopaedic mattresses and fans to the hospital, and days later he discovered that the equipment was missing.

The Governor gave the hint during the inauguration of Commissioners, Permanent Secretaries, Members of the Judicial Service Commission, the Nasarawa State Independent National Electoral Commission (NASIEC) and Special Advisers.

Irked over the development, the Governor said he directed the health Commissioners to investigate the matter

The Governor buttressed  that anyone found culpable would be dismissed and prosecuted, describing the diversion of hospital equipment meant for patients as unacceptable.

“I have already asked the Honourable Commissioner for Health to investigate, dismiss and prosecute them,”

He said dismissal alone would not be sufficient punishment for anyone found to have diverted or sold the donated items, insisting that the Government would pursue criminal prosecution against persons involved.
