The State Commissioner of Environment and Mining, Honourable Magrete Itake Elayo, has shut down the popular tomatoes market in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, over the untidy environment.
She stated this during this month’s environmental sanitation exercise held today, Saturday.
The Commissioner said the market was shut down to enable the traders selling tomatoes and green leaves to change from their habit of putting leaves and tomatoes on bare ground.
Hon.Magrete Itake Elayo, while briefing journalists, said 37 tricycles were impounded in today’s environmental sanitation exercise.
“For the tricycles, we are keeping them until Monday morning by 8:00 am. I will start a class for them; by implication, I will provide a cup of tea for all of them, and I will discharge them by 5:00 pm.
The Commissioner thanked the Staff of the Ministry, security operatives, and volunteers for their supporter to the exercise.
