The Judicial Processes Of Trial Of Saraki For Corrpution Must Not Be Compromised Or Subverted On The Altar Of Political Horse-Trading! – CACOL

It has been reported that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki accompanied by a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar are meeting with the National Leader of All Progressives Party (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in a move suspected to be aimed at resolving the political ‘rift’ between Tinubu and Saraki.

Reacting to the news, Mr Debo Adeniran, Executive Chairman of Coalition against Corrupt Leaders (CACOL) said, ‘’the resolution of the self-inflicted internal wrangling and crisis within the APC and its leaders is not unwelcomed, at least, that should make them focus more on governance issues. But the most significant thing for us in CACOL is that whatever meeting culminate into or their decisions are; it should not and must not lead to the scuttling of the trial of the Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal and his prosecution for other alleged corruption charges against him. That is what is important to Nigerians; the alleged crimes of Saraki are committed against them and the Nigerian state, the APC and its leaders cannot adjudicate on the matter as they have no such rights/powers under the law and in the court of morality.

“We therefore call on Nigerians to be eternally vigilant so that the gains of the anti-corruption war so far are frittered away on the altar of political horse-trading of the ruling class; collectively we must ensure that all the on-going prosecutions, trials and investigations on-going on corruption cases are not scuttled; swept ‘under the carpet’ or subverted to achieve the derailment of the anti-corruption war’’ the Executive Chairman enthused.

“Senator Bukola, we reiterate should resign immediately to focus on clearing his name if he has any honour or morality left in him considering the gravity of the charges against him which are unfitting for the revered office of the President Senate and the occupants; that is the right thing to do. We call of the CCT, the EFCC, Judiciary and all agencies involved in the cases against Saraki to ensure that the cases are pursued to logical conclusions, the law must run its full course!”’ Mr. Debo Adeniran concluded.
