Adamawa State has been ranked as the fourth-best performing state in Nigeria in governance delivery and the fastest-growing economy in the North-East, according to a recent assessment by Phillips Consulting Limited (PCL)
The report places Adamawa among the country’s leading states in public sector performance, highlighting significant progress in governance, economic growth, and service delivery.
Speaking during activities marking the seventh anniversary of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s administration, Leader Leneke, the Commissioner of Information and Strategy attributed the state’s economic transformation to years of deliberate reforms, fiscal discipline, and investments in critical sectors.
He described the administration’s seven years in office as a period of “developmental and economic turnaround,” marked by significant growth in internally generated revenue (IGR), increased Value Added Tax (VAT) contributions, improved infrastructure, enhanced healthcare services, and expanded access to education.
According to the commissioner, Adamawa’s rising economic profile has earned national recognition, with a recent assessment by Phillips Consulting ranking the state fourth in Nigeria for governance delivery.
The report evaluated states based on key performance indicators such as fiscal responsibility, infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and overall socio-economic progress.
“Adamawa today is the fastest-growing economy in North-East Nigeria and perhaps one of the best-performing states in the country,” Leneke said.
He noted that the state was placed in the prestigious four-star category alongside Ogun State and Kaduna State, while Lagos State remained the only state in the five-star category.
Leneke said the steady increase in IGR and VAT receipts reflects the success of government policies aimed at stimulating economic activity, broadening the tax base, and creating an enabling environment for investment and business growth.
Beyond economic gains, he highlighted major achievements in the education sector, including the introduction of free primary education and the payment of WAEC and NECO examination fees for secondary school students.
He said the interventions have improved school enrolment and contributed to stronger academic performance, with Adamawa students recording some of the best examination results in Northern Nigeria.
The commissioner also pointed to substantial improvements in healthcare delivery, road construction, urban renewal projects, and security initiatives, which he said have expanded the dividends of democracy to communities across the state’s 21 local government areas.
He stressed that the administration remains focused on consolidating its achievements before the end of its tenure in May 2027.
“This government is not done yet. We still have about a year to go, and it will be a year of delivering on the promises and mandate given to us by the people,” he said.
Leneke, who recently assumed office as commissioner, pledged to strengthen communication between the government and citizens, ensuring that residents remain informed about policies, programmes, and development initiatives.
“My responsibility is to serve as the communication bridge between government and the people, ensuring that the gains of democracy are visible, understood, and appreciated by all,” he added.
The latest assessment adds to growing indications that Adamawa’s sustained investments in human capital, infrastructure, and public sector reforms are yielding measurable economic and governance outcomes, positioning the state as one of Nigeria’s emerging development success stories.
