Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa has cautioned Nasarawa state Contingents to the second national youth games scheduled to hold in Kwara state to shun the use of sports enhancement drug during the competition.
The state governor stated this while addressing the state contingent at the Lafia township stadium at the weekend, the state commissioner for youth and sport, Ishaka Ahmed Galadima who represented governor Al-Makura commended the state Sports officials for their resilience and doggedness in selecting a formidable contingent.
Governor Umar Tanko Al-Makura opined that the state government placed greater premium on sports development, he further asserted that the second edition was meant to expose hidden talent among the youth in the state.
“The second edition of the national youth games was to accord premise youth empowerment as well encourage youth participation”as he expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the national in the recent competition.
The state governor affirmed that the government of Australia is to partner Nasarawa state in the area of sports development, he urged the athletes to put in their best in all the nine competition, he also promised to reward best performing players in the ongoing competition by winning the highest laurel.
The nine games are
Judo and amongst other games.
The state commissioner for sports and youth Development who was represented by the permanent Secretary of the ministry applauded the state government for her commitment.
Speaking on behalf of the athletes, Esther Ashe assured the state government to be of good conduct during and after the competition, she also applauded the state government of finding them worthy to represent the state.
Couch Bashir Basi speaking on behalf of couches assured the sponsors of drug-free athletes as he emphasize on discipline among the contingent.
