Local Govt Election: 21 Political Parties To Participate In Nasarawa Council Election

Ahead of the scheduled Local Government election in Nasarawa State, the State Independent Electoral Commission has confided that 21 political Parties would participate in the election slated for 26th May, 2018.

The Chairman of the Commission, Hon.Henry John Omaku hinted this during a Press Conference held at Democracy House along Shendam road Lafia.

Omaku assured political parties in the State of a level playing ground for all political parties and aspirants contesting for Chairmanship and Councillorship positions.

“I’m assuring the entire people of Nasarawa State of conducting a free, fair and credible council poll come 26 May 2018”.

The Chairman while clearing the air on the controversy that foist the Peoples’ Democratic Party ,All Progressives Grand Alliance and other political parties from participating in the election following the appointment of card carrying members as Chairman and Commissioners of the commission.

The Chairman asserted that he has since resign from active politics as a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress.

He also denied sponsoring any political parties to participate in the forthcoming Local Government election.

He further unleashed that adequate security would be provided to the crisis prone areas to ensure free processes.

“I have deregistered myself as a card carrying member of the ruling All Progressives Congress for the time being as the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission.”
