Commotion May Ensue In Nasarawa Polytechnic As One Week Ultimatum Over Non-accreditation Expires Friday

The Management of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia is in quandary as the one week ultimatum given to the Acting Rector, Augustine Ali Gabu expires Friday this week.

Students of the Polytechnic have vowed to cause rumpus by disrupting examination process.

The ultimatum foist the management of the institution to had a marathon meeting with the executive of Students Union Government and class representatives aimed at tackling the rumpus which is about disrupting examination slated for this week.

It was reliably gathered that the meeting which was held at Hall one, a lecture hall sharing boundary with the old administrative block was well attended by management staff.

Feelers from the Polytechnic revealed that the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Paul Useni was absent at the meeting as he was out of the State attending to some issues.

A member of SUG who pleaded anonymity posited that nothing will stop students to shut down the institution over the expiration of accreditation of some courses.

He in addition said many courses have no accreditation at all while those with interim accreditation expired since August 2017 and no frantic measure was taken to address the situation.

He further explained that absence of accreditation is a serious setback to academic activities..

“This affects and prevented graduates from the Department of Estate Management from going to their National Youth Service Corp” from the Polytechnic.

“Go to the school and confirm what I’m telling you today, no Higher National Diploma in Estate Management, why is because of non-accreditation “.

The Acting Rector could not be reach as at press time.

It would be recalled that the Chairman of the Investigative panel set up to investigate the activities of the Polytechnic under the headship of Fati Umar recommended for the urgent accreditation of courses in the institution.

She stated this while presenting the report of the committee to Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura at the Government House.

The State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Tijjani when contacted on phone declined comment over the matter.
