About 100 suspected gunmen’s on Sunday invaded Kukawa and Gyambawu communities of Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau leaving several people dead and many sustaining various degrees of injuries the communities are border settlements between Bauchi, Gombe with tick forest connecting Sambisa forest.
The bandits who penetrated through the forest linking Yakari Game Reserve in the afternoon started shooting sporadically and attacking the natives.
According to residents, the whole of Kukawa settlement is under siege where they have invaded sacking the communities as many dwellers are now running helter-skelter to take refuge inside the nearby bushes.
Information revealed that Several persons have been feared killed as gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Kukawa and Gyambawu in Plateau State.
Residents of the affected villages told newsmen on Sunday that they don’t know where the invaders are coming from.
According to the residents of the affected areas, the bandits have attacked Kukawa, Gyanbawu à, Dungur and Keram villages where scores of people were killed.
Adam Musa, a resident of Kukawa village who confirmed the incident confirmed the incident at 04 pm said that many were injured while hundreds of people have fled their homes, adding that security personnel is yet to reach the villages.
Musa said the gunmen in separate attacks invaded the villages at about 11 am when the residents of the areas were going about their normal activities and started shooting sporadically.
He said the bandits who are currently operating have burnt down many houses.
Meanwhile, another plot by suspected gunmen to invade the Correctional center was foiled by the security agencies in Jos on Sunday causing confusion and tension.
However, the security agencies barricade all the entrances of the state command and prison headquarters to avert further jailbreaks in Jos prison.
The Plateau State Police wish to state clearly that Plateau State especially Jos is very peaceful.
The Command has adopted a new security strategy in line with our normal routine patrol and check.
Also, the Command wants to be proactive in any intelligent report at our disposal as it is our core mandate to protect lives and property.
The Command urge everyone to go about their legitimate business without fear.
