Dan Opara

Rainfalls watering the earth is a natural phenomenon but the one that happened on Sunday, 3rd of April 2022, has left some Akabo indigenes in tears as they count their losses worth of millions.

Upon the alarm raised by some indigenes of the affected areas which includes St. Micheal Catholic Parish at Orie-Akabo and  Amukachi axis, opposite the Ekemele Market, a delegation headed by the IMC Chairman of Ikeduru, High Chief Tony Jude Iwuamadi who was ably represented by the Honourable councilor representing Akabo,Hon. Uche Onuoha led some prominent personalities to the affected areas among whom is High Chief. Sir. Polycarp Iheriohama,JP, (The Traditional Prime Minister of Akabo Ancient Kingdom) in which they appealed for calm as they sympathized with the people for their loses.

They assured the people that they will inform the necessary government agencies for quick intervention.

Speaking on behalf of the affected areas, the family of Engr. Chinedu Owulezi, first son of the former woman leader in Akabo Ezinne Raechel Owulezi, whose properties was greatly destroyed by the flood, explains that the flood resulted due to the lack of drainage channel by the construction company.

Another resident of the area Mr. Okezuo Ugwushie lamented that the flood destroyed some of his properties and livestock valued over 2 million naira.

Similarly, Rt. Hon. Amb. Uche Ogbuagu (Ogbuagu Mbaike), the Honourable Member Representing Ikeduru State Constituency, IMHA has appealed for calmness while sympathizing with the affected people of that area.

He informed the people that he has expedite legislative actions towards tackling floods and erosion sites across Ikeduru.

When contacted via telephone, the resident engineer supervising the owerri/okigwe expressway, apologize for the damages caused and assured the people that he will pressure the Craneburg Construction Company to immediately begin the channeling of the drainage.

I am hopeful that the construction company will respond as quickly as possible because any further raindrops will be disastrous.
