Gunmen Kill Traditional Ruler In Plateau Community, Group Condemns Act

The  Kanam  Development Association (KADA) in respect of the abduction and gruesome killing of ward head (SARKIN) Shuwaka ,  Mal. Hudu Hassan Barau  in Kanam Local Government Area ( LGA) of Plateau State has condemned the brutal murdered of their traditional ruler by unknown gunmen abducted six days .

We are consumed by grief and outrage as we received the tragic news of the death of one of our community leaders, Mal. Hudu Hassan Barau, the ward head of Shuwaka (Sarkin Shuwaka) from Kyaram District, Garga Community of Kanam Local Government Area, Plateau State who was brutally abducted about six days ago and killed by bandits yesterday.

In a statement made available to this medium and signed by ND Shehu Kanam ,Secretary, Kanam Development Association (KADA),Barr. Garba G. Aliyu, Chairman, Kanam Development Association (KADA)in Jos.

His lifeless body was recovered from the bush around Wanka forest this morning. We are still grappling with the shock and pain of this senseless killing and the continued bandit attacks across the communities in the GARGA area.

This heart-wrenching incident is a stark reminder of the persistent insecurity and banditry that has plagued our communities for far too long. Despite our repeated pleas and warnings, the government across all levels has failed to take decisive action to address this menace. The people of Garga and surrounding areas are living in constant fear, and it is imperative that our leaders take immediate and concrete steps to ensure their safety and security.

We call upon the following leaders to take urgent action as the patience of our people is being exhausted:

The Governor of Plateau State (Barr. Caleb M. Mutfwang):

We urge you to declare a state of emergency in Garga Community of Kanam Local Government Area and deploy adequate security personnel to tackle the banditry menace.

To the Senator representing Plateau Central (Distinguished Senator Diket Plang):

We expect you to use your platform (Nigerian Senate) to raise awareness about the plight of our community and push for meaningful intervention from the federal government. We demand you lead a special delegation with relief support to hundreds of the affected persons in the affected communities.

Member Representing Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam Federal Constituency (Rt. Hon. Yusuf Adamu Gagdi):

Your silence and inaction about the insecurity and continued killing of your people is quite worrisome and disturbing. We expect to see you taking up this issue with all seriousness you accord to other communities outside Kanam LGA when such problems comes up. As Chairman of House Committee on Nigerian Navy, we demand you visit the affected communities and offer a reliable solution to the insecurity challenges in the affected communities.

The Member Representing Kantana Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly (Hon. Samila Bala Noma):

We demand that you work with the state government to allocate resources and support to address the security challenges in the affected communities. Your silence of the insecurity affecting your immediate Constituency is more than troubling.

The Executive Chairman of Kanam Local Government (Hon. Salisu Ayuba):

We expect you to collaborate with security agencies and community leaders to develop a comprehensive plan to protect our people and prevent further attacks. We urged you to stop the multimillion Naira rehabilitation work on Kanam LGC Secretariat and mobilize resources to empower the affected communities address the banditary in their communities.

We will no longer tolerate the silence and inaction of our leaders in the face of these atrocities. We demand justice, security, and protection for our people. The government must act now to restore peace and stability to our community.

We stand in solidarity with the family of the deceased and the entire community, and we will continue to advocate for their rights and safety.

May Allah have mercy on the soul of the Ward Head Shuwaka (Mal. Hudu Hassan Barau). Our deepest condolences to his immediate family and the entire people of Kyaram District, Garga area and KANAM LGA over this brutal killing.
