Governor Al-Makura Declares Support For The Establishment of Ranches In Nasarawa State

Nasarawa State governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura  in a bid to find sustainable solution in the recurrent farmer/herders skirmishes In the State has thrown his weight in support of the  Federal Government initiative to end the unabated killings by  establishing cattle ranches.

The position of the Government of Nasarawa State was contained in a press statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government and made available to Journalists by .Bar Mohammed Hassan Abdullahi.

The SSG said decision has taken as far-reaching measures which include reactivation and further development of existing grazing reserves and provision of model ranch across the country.

“Nasarawa State Government has keyed into the progamme and His Excellency, Umaru Tanko Al-makura, Governor of Nasarawa State has approved the utilization of all the seven (7) gazette grazing reserves of the State.

The grazing reserves according to him include reserves located at Awe, Keana, Dorna, Assakio, Konva, Gitata and Kurudu for the puposes of the ranching programme In Nasarawa State.”

Governor Al-Makura appealed to people within the five game reserves to accord all the necessary support and cooperation for the successful implementation of the programme in the State.

Consequently, the State Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, been affected Local Government Councils and communities where these grazing reserves are located are not only requested to note this development,

His Excellency, Governor Umaru Al-makura wish to affirm that Nasarawa State is completely in support of the Federal government’s initiative and our state is willing and available to provide all resources and support to ensure the success of the ranching effort adopted by the Federal government.

The State Government is in full support because it sees this as an important and proactive step towards assuaging and finding a lasting solution to the age-old challenge of farmers- herder conflict which has been with us from time immemorial.
