FG Okays Nasarawa Varsity’s Takeover Of Federal Medical Centre Keffi

The federal government has approved Nasarawa State University, Keffi’s (NSUK) takeover of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi, as its teaching hospital following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nasarawa State Government and the university.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday at the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Abuja, marks a significant milestone in the university’s drive to strengthen medical education and expand healthcare services in Nasarawa State.

The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, presided over the signing ceremony.

The Director of Health Services and the Director of Legal Services of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare signed the agreement on behalf of the federal government, while the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Education, John Mamman, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, and the Registrar, Dr. Bala Ahmed, signed on behalf of the state government and the university.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mamman and Professor Liman described the agreement as the beginning of a new chapter for the university and the state.

They expressed appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare for the partnership, noting that converting FMC Keffi into the university’s teaching hospital would significantly enhance training for medical and allied health sciences students.

Professor Liman described the development as “a dream come true,” assuring the ministry of the university’s commitment to ensuring the effective utilisation of the facility for quality teaching, research and healthcare delivery.

For his part, Mamman said the takeover of FMC Keffi would complement Governor Abdullahi Sule’s sustained efforts to improve education, healthcare, agriculture and industrial development across the state.

He noted that establishing a teaching hospital would further strengthen the state’s human capital development agenda and provide practical training opportunities for future healthcare professionals.
