Governor Hyacinth Alia on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, commended the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her commitment to the welfare of women and youth in Benue State. He made the remarks at Ihugh in Vandeikya Local Government Area.
During the event, Governor Alia announced that the newly commissioned Community ICT Centre would be named after Mama Lucy Aluor. The naming, he said, honors her contributions and legacy to the community.
According to the Governor, Senator Tinubu has remained a mother and friend of Benue. Her interventions through the Renewed Hope Initiative have consistently supported women, youths, children, and vulnerable groups across the state.
The statement was delivered during the commissioning and handing over ceremony of the Community ICT Centre by the First Lady. The Governor described the project as timely and people-focused.
Governor Alia explained that the centre is designed to improve digital literacy across rural communities. He said it would equip youths with employable skills needed in today’s economy.
He added that the facility will help bridge the digital divide in Benue. It is also expected to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and self-reliance among young people.
The ICT Centre was established through the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA, and the Benue State Government.
The Governor noted that the project reflects his administration’s commitment to ICT development and rural transformation. He said rural areas must not be left behind in the digital age.
He stated that the centre will open access to ICT services that were previously out of reach for many residents. It will also improve network connectivity and support local businesses.
Governor Alia said the facility is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities. This, he believes, will boost economic activities and improve livelihoods in Ihugh and surrounding communities.
The Governor appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting state governments. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent use of resources and delivery of more impactful projects.
