Muslims Mark Hijrah 1448 New Year In Osun

Muslims in Osun State on Wednesday trooper out in large numbers for the celebration of the new Hijrah Year 1448 at Fakunle-Unity School in Osogbo, the state capital organized by Osun State Muslim Community.

Dignitaries including prominent Imams and Muslim scholars, traditional rulers community leaders attended the New Hijrah Year celebration.

Children from various schools and Modrasat across the state and Muslim paramilitary groups in the state participated in a matchpass during the celebration.

In his sermon, the Guest Speaker, Dr Taofeeq Abdul Hameed, former Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ayede called on Government to take necessary actions to end insecurity in the country.

Dr Taofeeq Abdul Hameed advised Nigerian leaders to study, learn and emulate the leadership style of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his khalifas such as Umar Bin Abdul Aziz which is basically about outing the people first.

The President of Osun State Muslim Community, Sheikh Mustafa Olawuyi said the general security situation in the country calls for all hands to be on deck to ensure safety of lives and properties

Olawuyi urged government to identify, arrest and prosecute the sponsors of bandits and kidnappers.

He said “It is an axiom that hardened terrorists, kidnappers, cattle rustlers, child traffickers and illegal miners with dangerous motives are now dining and winning in our midst.

“Schools, farmlands, day and night travels, places of work and relaxation centers, market places etc are no more safe for anyone to visit.

“The questions begging for answers are numerous. I will mention only a few. Are the sponsors, financiers and perpetrators of these crimes sacred cows? Could it be true that these crimes thrive because some bad eggs in various security establishments are involved?

The OSMC President queried: “Is it possible that some Traditional rulers and Chiefs are feeding fat on these crimes Can one imagine that some religious houses and leaders daily smile to Banks for their shares in this abominable stench? Is it true that desperate politicians are the major sponsors of terrorism in Nigeria and if yes, why”.

Olawuyi called on all Muslims to intensify prayers for God’s protection and liberation form criminals.

In his speech in the occasion, the state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke

rejoiced with Muslims on the commemoration of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH.

The governor said “I congratulate all Muslims for witnessing another year and pray that Almighty Allah grants us the grace, wisdom and strength to make this new year a period of peace, progress and abundant blessings.

“This occasion is not merely a celebration of a date on the calendar. It is a profound reminder of the historic migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and his companions from Makkah to Madinah, a journey that symbolises faith, sacrifice, perseverance, courage, unity and the triumph of hope over adversity.

“As we reflect on the lessons of Hijrah, we are reminded that every challenge presents an opportunity for growth and transformation. The lessons of Hijrah teach us that patience in adversity, perseverance in difficult times and faith in Allah can lead to peace, progress and success. These are values that have consistently guided our collective journey as a State under my leadership”

“I am proud that Osun State remains a shining example of religious harmony, tolerance and peaceful coexistence. I commend the Muslim community for your invaluable contributions to the growth and development of our dear State. I assure you that this administration will continue to implement people-oriented policies, promote mutual respect and understanding among religious groups and ensure that development reaches every corner of Osun State.

“Today’s celebration provides an opportunity for all of us, irrespective of our backgrounds, to renew our commitment to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect and service to humanity. As a government, we recognise the critical role that religious institutions and faith-based organisations play in promoting moral values, social harmony, community development and responsible citizenship.

Governor Adeleke said his administration remains committed to policies and programmes that improve the welfare of the people and promised to continue to invest in education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, social protection, economic growth and security while tackling poverty across our State.
