Apparently miffed by the total electricity Blackout with its attendant security consequences, Governor Bala Mohammadu has been urged to intervene for the restoration of light electricity.

The chairman of Sabon Layi, Birshi Gandu Community Development Association, Honorable Ayuba Habila Salem made the plea in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Bauchi.

This was just as the community chided the Jos Electricity Distribution Company for failure to repair the transformer supplying light to the community after months of outrage and demanded for probe.

According to the community leader, the transformer in question is obsolete and cannot continue to supply adequate light to the residents with the increasing load shade of over ten thousand end-users.

“It’s unfortunate that the distribution company has failed its Promise in prompt return of the transformer when they took it away to under-go repairs in tandem with their unalloyed promise to return same within two weeks, but it’s now months “the chairman fumed.

The community leader expressed dissatisfaction that criminals are taking advantage of the electricity outrage to engage in attacking innocent residents thereby looting their belongings and leaving them in perpetual fear and phobia.

Besides, he added that residents are now coerced to opt for private security to protect and provide security for their dear lives and decried the deplorable security lapses Nigeria is facing concurrently.

The Chairman reiterated that the community had earlier submitted a Save Our Soul letter to Governor Bala through the state Ministry of Power, Science, and Technology requesting for assistance with a new transformer, just as it had done to other communities in Bauchi.

He also appealed to the state Ministry of Power, Science, and Technology to fulfill its promise, emphasizing that the month-long blackout had caused untold hardship to the residents of Sabon Layi Birshi Gandu, as the situation had paralyzed business activities within the community.

The chairman therefore urged JEDCO to consider the revenue loss of the company during this outrage and consider the company’s relationship with consumers of electricity services in the community with huge contributions to JED.

He then called on residents to remain calm while awaiting government intervention and desist from any attempt to take the law into their hands by protecting government properties within their domains.
