A member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa State Council, has said he knows a school where the head-teacher is almost teaching the entire school

A member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists at its state Congress, under the agenda State of the Nation, raised an alarm at the acute Shortage of Primary School Teachers, especially in one of the primary schools he recently visited, saying the head teacher is not just a head teacher but also taught classes one, two, three and four.

He said he was aware of the employment of 1000 rural teachers in the State by the Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) but emphasized that more needed to be done to activate the cradle of education, which is lacking teachers

Other issues raised also include the rising spate of insecurity, ranging from kidnapping to banditry, even in the presence of policemen at Ombi 1.

He also asked pertinent questions on whether the state Government has relaxed the curfew restricting motorcycle operators known as okada and Keke napep, which was used by police to extort money from them

A member from Lafia lauded the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) for the improvement in electricity supply in the State capital.

Other speakers called on the leadership of NUJ to carry out a sensitization exercise for the residents of Lafia on the new trend of political followership, which he said exhibited a do-or-die approach.

The State chairperson of NUJ, Comrade Juliana Ose Ofoku, in her contribution, called on members to be upright in their contribution towards proffering solutions to nagging issues, be it security challenges, crime and criminalities in the State.
