… our people must go to the farm this farming season
The Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Hon. Jonathan Okuba Addra, has called on the people of Doma, especially core farmers, to prepare for the rainy season.
Adding that farmers must farm this season, describing Doma as the food basket of Nasarawa State.
While addressing the leadership of the Farmers Association, who paid him a courtesy visit at his office during the week.
“What I’m saying is not a leverage for you farmers to go and forment trouble, I will never allow such to happen at a time that His Excellency is encouraging all Local Government Chairmen to key into farming”.
The leader of the farmers group in Doma, Abubakar Ose appreciate the Executive Chairman of Doma Local Government for the relationship that exist between farmers and his office.
He urged members of the farmers’ Association to accord topmost support to their leader.
It could be recalled that farmers over the years have been facing serious threats from Fulani pastoralists.
Over the years, casualties were recorded, ranging from farmers whose hands or legs were amputated to or who died outright when Fulani pastoralists attacked.
That is excluding those whose wives were raped, whose crops were destroyed and with no end in sight to compensate them.
The unabated situation has compelled farmers, especially youth, to abandon farming to go and seek for a greener pastures in faraway Ajeokuta and Taraba forest in the name of lumbering increasing the high rate of mortality amongst youth.
