Bassa /Jos North Fed Constituency: How Gov Lalong Jettisoned Gentleman Agreement

The All Progressives Congress,APC, stakeholders meeting held at Bishop Court over Jos North -West, led by the Chairman Plateau State Fire Services, Hon Manpay AkA Alias Sarkiyaki has told supporters of the party in Jenta Adamu that Governor Simon Lalong has jettisoned the gentleman agreement in Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency thereby opening doors for all interested aspirants both in Jos North and Bassa federal constituency.

Hon Manpay Sarkiyaki in his address told the party stalwarts that Governor Simon Lalong is not in support of the gentleman agreement of the APC.

The Hon Member dispel rumours making around that Governor Simon Lalong had in the wake of the death of Hon Haruna Maitala suggested that Bassa LGA be allowed to complete their tenure of office.

The meeting was attended by party APC Chairmen and councilors and other stakeholders from Jos West.

Those who contributed expressed their happiness and satisfaction over the development stressing that they would work hard to ensure that the person from Jos North most especially Jos North-West wins the bye-election when it is finally conducted.

They believed that Jos is the home of APC so denying them this precocious opportunity to contest for the bye-election would amount to injustice.

However, some of the dead stalwart persons who spoke to this medium under anonymity described the exercise as a shameful act wondering why an appointee of government would chair a party meeting with party chairmen sitting on the floor.

It was also gathered a particular aspirant was responsible for organizing the party stalwarts meeting in Jos north.

Sir, politics is about people. Political power is to be acquired through democratic means as Abraham Lincoln rightly put it that democracy is the rule of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Democracy means, among other, openness in politics and equal participation by citizens.

The characteristics of a true democracy are among others, internal democracy through free, fair, and inter-party elections.

Sir, this group is not of the opinion of given at the Plata of gold the seat of the federal house of representative to anybody for the following reasons.

The concept of internal democracy refers to the level and method of involving party members in decision-making and deliberation within the party structure.

Internal democracy is usually deployed to nurture citizen political competence and to produce more capable representatives who in turn, ensure that the party produces better policies politically and good programs.

The seat of Bassa/Jos North Federal constituency right from inception till today has witnessed six members 3 each so why this issue now?

The late Haruna Maitala of blessed memory was not elected based on local government affairs but on merit capacity, therefore, the people of Jos North and Bassa should be given the chance to choose the best from among all.

Finally Jos North embraced A.P.C immediately after inception with a large turnout of members which led to a large victory in all electioneering processes.
