Acting Rector Nasarawa Polytechnic  Is From University of Agriculture, Makurdi Not Kaduna polytechnic–Investigation

Pundits from the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia at the weekend revealed that the newly appointed Acting Rector, Mrs.Ruth Jirico is a staff of University of Agriculture, Makurdi not from the Kaduna State Polytechnic as she rightly claimed during an interview conducted for Principal officers by the present Commissioner of education, Fati Sabo.

 

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Sylvester Namo hinted this during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists at the weekend.

 

He described the recent appointments in Naspoly as appointments done in error, stating that is illegal to appoints two Acting Deputy Rectors if the Rector is on acting capacity.

 

“The law establishing the institution has stated it clearly that the visitor who happened to be the State Governor would appoint a substantive Rector as well Acting Deputy Rector for the Polytechnic”.

 

On the issue of non-implementation of 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 promotions, he advised the new management to do the needful to avert a replication of what transpired in the State College of Education, Akwanga.

 

“The issue at stake now is why the delay in the issuance of our letters, not even talking of the implementation”.

 

While commenting on issue surrounding Internally Generated Revenue of the Polytechnic, he said is not aware of the IGR of the school but maintained that the school has the resource considering the population of students.

 

According to him’, There is no need for our people to be crying over IGR, He however said the Governing Council set up a committee to screen staff and over N5m was realized.

 

“What we expect from them is to utilize the bonus monthly to augment staff promotions”.

 

The Public Relation Officer of the institution when contacted declined comment over the issues raised that the Acting Rector, Jirico by law supposed not to be the Acting Rector if her field of study is not taught in Naspoly.

 

Further findings revealed that tongues continued to wag within Naspoly over the appointment of a Librarian who was amongst the embattled management of the College of education, Akwanga.

 

Pundit from the institution unveiled that the Acting Rector, Ruth Jirico was not from Kaduna state Polytechnic before her recent appointment rather after she left Kadpoly as Chief Lecturer which was the criteria for the seat of Rector and collected as offer at the University of Agriculture,Makurdi, an office she was working with until her appointment by the visitor of the Nasarawa State Polytechnic, Lafia, Engr.Abdullahi Alhaji.Sule.

 

The State Commissioner of education, Fati Sabo could not be reached for further explanation when universalreportersng.com visited the State ministry of education for barely two weeks but to no avail.
