Bauchi state in collaboration with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) during the celebration of World Toilet Day (WTD) said it has delivered eight (8) out of the 20 local government areas to Open Defecation Free (ODF) in the State.
Abdulrazaq Nuhu Zaki, the State Commissioner of water resources and sanitation said this during the Media dialogue on the 2023 World Toilet Day with the theme: Accelerating Change taking simple actions to bring about change at Jamil guest palace on Wednesday in Azare, Bauchi state.
” World Toilet Day exists to inform, engage, and inspire people to take action toward achieving the goal. Toilets are important because access to a safe functional toilet has a positive impact on public health, human dignity, and personal safety, especially for females’ sanitation systems that do not have safely managed excreta allow the spread of diseases like soil-transmitted diseases and water-related diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, typhoid fever, dysentery, neglected tropical diseases among others.
Adding that ” The state government is determined to work for the actualization of SDG 6.2 target and overall, the attainment of statewide ODF by 2025. It is important to note that the state government was able to deliver 8 LGAs, the local government areas include Bogoro, Dass, Gamawa, Ganjuwa, Katagum, Toro, Warji, and Shira respectively”
According to the commissioner, Nuhu Zaki said that awareness was created through promotional activities by the government and toilet business owners on the need to improve latrine uptake and there is high demand for improved latrines by household
Commissioner of Water Resources and Sanitation, Abdulrazaq Nuhu Zaki who was represented by the general manager of the RUWASSA, Alhaji Adamu Sambo commendate (UNICEF) for its continued support to the good people of Bauchi state particularly women and children.
He added that most of their success was achieved through UNICEF interventions
He also commended the effort of the member representing Bauchi constituency in the National Assembly, RT. Honorable Aminu Ali Garu for his doggedness in donating one thousand (1,000) pieces of sato pan to the good people of Bauchi State.
