Adamawa ADC Guber Candidate Suleiman Returns To Alma Mater At Its 55th Graduation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Amb. Engr. Omar Suleiman, popularly known as Omarana, reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development and education by awarding a full undergraduate scholarship to the overall best graduating student of Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Hong, during the school’s 55th graduation ceremony.
The scholarship initiative is aimed at expanding access to tertiary education and encouraging academic excellence among young people in the state.
Suleiman made the announcement on Wednesday while serving as Chairman of the 55th Graduation and Prize-Giving Ceremony of GSSS Hong, his alma mater, where he graduated nearly five decades ago as the Overall Best Student of the school’s eighth set with Division One.
Describing the visit as a homecoming with purpose, the governorship hopeful said the school played a pivotal role in shaping his character and leadership values.
He urged the graduating students to remain disciplined, resilient and committed to excellence as they pursue higher education and future careers.
The highlight of the event was the award of a full undergraduate scholarship to Miss Gloria Dujima, the Overall Best Graduating Female Student. Suleiman said the gesture was intended to ensure that financial constraints would not stand in the way of academic excellence and the beneficiary’s aspirations.
In a complementary intervention, the ADC House of Representatives candidate for Gombi/Hong Federal Constituency, Hon. Aliyu Tarfa, announced the sponsorship of JAMB registration fees for all graduating students of the 2025/2026 academic session, a move aimed at increasing opportunities for the entire graduating class to access tertiary education.
Speaking at the ceremony, Suleiman stressed that sustainable development begins at the grassroots through deliberate investments in schools, communities and young people.
He maintained that every child deserves access to quality education regardless of social or economic background, urging governments to prioritise education as the foundation for long-term development.
The ceremony drew traditional rulers, education stakeholders, government officials, alumni, parents and community leaders who celebrated the school’s 55-year legacy of academic excellence.
Earlier in the day, Suleiman paid a courtesy visit to the Tol Hoba, His Royal Majesty Barr. Alheri Bulus, where he acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in fostering peace, unity and community development.
He also received warm receptions from youth groups in Song and Gombi Local Government Areas and later paid a condolence visit to the family of Alhaji Iliyasu Chahimi over the death of his son.
The day’s activities, according to his campaign organisation, reflected a leadership philosophy centred on service, education, compassion and grassroots empowerment.
