Workers Day: Nasarawa TUC Chairman Express  Worries Over NLC Frosty Relationship With Govt

The Chairman of Trade Union Council, Comrade Mohammed Abdullahi Doma has attributed the frosty relationship that exist between the Nigeria Labour Congress and the State government as a serious setback to the State.

 

In his address marking this year’s workers day celebration held at Labour House along Makurdi road,Stating that the lacuna in the Union would do no one any good.

 

Doma maintained that the internal wrangling has dare consequences resulting to friction in the peaceful Union.

 

The Police in Nasarawa State have sealed the Lafia parade ground, the proposed venue of the workers day celebration yesterday.

 

The parade ground is located in the city center of Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, which has served as venue of workers day celebrations and other occasions since the creation of the state.

 

Our correspondent reported that as early as 8am yesterday, two Police vans loaded with over thirty armed police personnel were stationed at the entrances of the Lafia parade ground to prevent labor unions from using it.

 

Haven’t noticed that the gates were barricaded by the armed police men, the unions beat a retreat and mobilised their members to Labor house, where they held a low key May Day celebration.

 

As they were about to commence the celebration, the Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State command, CP Bola Longe, joined them and addressed the thousands of workers.

 

CP Longe, who told the workers that neither the government nor the police was not against them, called on the unions to unite so that they can achieve their aims and objectives.

 

Some members of the NLC are pointing acussing fingers on the State government for causing the commotions in the Union by backing the defeated Chairman of NLC who he said lost gallantly

 

“We learnt that government has pushed him to disagree with the outcome of the one of the most peaceful NLC election”.

 

Insiders revealed that the former Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Adeka petitioned the returning officer that conducted the election of Irregularities.

 

Adeka could not be reached for comment as at press time.
