Why Labaran Maku Is The Right Candidate For Nasarawa 2015 Governorship Election- Coordinator Maku Support Group(MSG)

For quite sometimes now, the Group known as Maku Support Group, MSG has continue to show up its support for the candidacy of Labaran Maku the Honourable Minister of Information, to run for the office of the Governor in his home state, Nasarawa State for the 2015 governorship election. In this interview with the Coordinator of the Group Mr. Bako Ajen, he highlights why the Group was formed and how they are poised to give Maku the needed support he deserves to win the Nasarawa Guber in 2015.
The Excerpts:
We have noticed in recent times that some groups including MSG are coming out to canvass support for Hon Minister of Information Labaran Maku. What is the Agenda behind this?
The reasons are not far-fetched and are very obvious. Labaran Maku is a brand that has come to inspire so much confidence. So it’s only natural that everybody will seek to identify with such a brand.
We at MAKU SUPPORT GROUP (MSG) have as our cardinal objective, the realisation of a Labaran Maku candidature. That is our agitation and of course, all Pro-Maku groups are in tandem with this objective. The proliferation of groups and the preponderance of the call to the hon. Minister to contest is a pointer to the increasing amount of support and goodwill he enjoys. It also highlights the popularity of the hon. minister and his anticipated candidacy.
Personally, I will love to see more of such groups. That way it will serve as a summons to those opposing his candidacy for one flimsy reason or the other to re-assess their positions. Remember that democracy is a game of numbers, so the more Pro-Maku groups, the merrier.
What informed your motive for mobilizing support for Labaran Maku even when he has not personally declared?
The agitation for a Labaran Maku candidature is borne out of the unfettered desire and compelling needs to rescue Nasarawa state from its downward spiral.
LABARAN MAKU represents the change Nasarawa state needs to attain its potentials and to be repositioned on the path to holistic growth and development.
His impressive and impeccable antecedence lends credence to his ability to break the jinx of NASARAWA state’s continued backwardness and underdevelopment.
We are in this movement to compel the Hon. Minister to contest the governorship of Nasarawa state. We earnestly pray that he heeds our call and declare for the Governorship
What is the project for Labaran Maku all about?
The MSG project is conceptualized against the backdrop of the need for a concerted effort to rid Nasarawa state of inept leadership and to afford the good people of the state whom good leadership has continually eluded a purposeful leader in the person of LABARAN MAKU.
The issue of who governs Nasarawa state post 2015 is a matter of immense concern to all discerning Nasarawa people as it is central to the transformation of the battered fortunes of the state and her people. This informed the agitation for a responsive and proactive Governor who is driven by high visionary ideals, patriotism, discipline, courage and selflessness as personified by Hon. LABARAN MAKU.
The project is geared towards projecting the candidature of HON. LABARAN MAKU. It is a call that is premised on the dire state of affairs and the need for a paradigm shift in Nasarawa state.
How would you achieve your goal of ensuring that Maku becomes the governor come 2015?
We are reaching out to Nasarawa people across all divides with a message of reason. We are consulting on all fronts and at all levels. We are also reaching out to leaders in their respective rights. We have come to find out that the masses may not be averse to this or that candidate, after all, poverty has no tribal marks. However, the leaders whom they look up to can sway their loyalty this way or that, so our target is to get this category of people to stay with reason, justice and responsible politics which Maku personifies.
Only recently, we made a call on the People’s Democratic Party PDP in the state to make LABARAN MAKU its consensus candidate due his increasing acceptance and expanding support base not to even mention the potency of his candidature. We have a line up of activities to bring our goal to fruition.
Some people are of the opinion that the Minister Labaran Maku sponsoring the activities of your group financially and that he is doing it secretly, in order to kick off his 2015 election campaigns. What is your reaction to that?
Well, this is not the first time I have been asked how much the minister has given us to do the things we are doing. But the truth is, he has not given us a penny. Isn’t it ridiculous to expect gratification from someone you are begging to come and take on an onerous and expensive venture? I believe the assumption that a candidate must pay for support is as a consequence of our decadent value system and it is rather, very unfortunate.
We are a self propelled, self motivated and self financing group of patriots of NASARAWA extraction that want the best for our state and we see in LABARAN MAKU the capacity to deliver on the mandate. That’s why we are rooting for him.
With the recent development in the state especially the political crisis, do you still see him realizing his Governorship ambition in 2015?
Of course we aspire to win and we are mobilising towards victory. But it is a rather difficult question to answer one-off. If we believed he would win the elections easily, without effort, we would not be campaigning for him so tirelessly. But we are campaigning vigorously. First the future belongs to God, and to talk of even tomorrow not even 2015 which is yet afar off, bothers on arrogance, even ignorance. And as you may know, politics may be a science, but to the extent that is a social science, it has no precision.
This Maku Support Group is it an Eggon something or is it all the Nasarawa state that is involved.
MAKU SUPPORT GROUP (MSG) is a pan-Nasarawa state organisation with membership and volunteers from across the state and even beyond. We are a group of professionals of Nasarawa extraction that are concerned about the future of our state and are alive to our responsibility of rescuing it .We are non tribal, non religious and non sectional.
