A University Don who is the National Librarian and Chief Executive officer, National Library of Nigeria, Professor Lenrie Aina Olatokunbo has charged the research body to comply with the directive of standard practice of promoting qualitative book numbering in Nigeria.
He made this known during a two day stakeholders and sensitization workshop for Researchers, Authors and Publishers in the north east and north central Nigeria on Tuesday in Jos.
Prof Olatokunbo cautioned that all publishers, researchers should adhere to publishing standard and compliance with the legal deposition of the law guidelines of National Library of Nigeria.
According to him, the sensitization workshop on legal deposit compliance, ISSN and ISSN, held at the Faculty of law, University of Jos, is create awareness amongst members .
Prof. Olatokunbo said as part of the objectives enlightening and educating members including Researchers, Authors and Publishers in the north east and north central maintain the regulations standard .
He reiterated that the legal deposit, the sensitization activities have also been focusing on publishing standard through the obtaining of International Book Number ISBN for books, monographs, reports and the International Standard Serial Number ISSN for Journals, Newspapers and Magazines by all categories of producers of publications.
He further explained to Researchers, Authors and Publishers the importance and the reason for registering their publications.
The Deputy Governor Plateau state, Professor Sonni Tyoden, represented by the Executive Chairman SUBEB, Professor Mathew Sule, said that as part of Government mandate in establishing libraries and other things that can enhances learning.
The Vice Chancellor, University of Jos, Professor Sebastian Maimako, represented by the Dean, Faculty of Veterinary research, Professor . Lami Lombin said the commitment towards the enhancement of library and library studies in the University is welcome development to the educational learning of undergraduates .
Meanwhile, the zonal Coordinator of the National Library of Nigeria, Alhaji Rilwanu Abdulsalam appreciated the role and responsibilities handled by publishers and libraries in the zone.
Adding that research institutions including government agencies should comply with the legal deposit law.
Some of the participants at the workshop bared their mines on the sensitization, saying that, they have been equipped with new skills, new techniques and new approach to both registration of document and periodicals.
