The entire married women of Owerri Municipal Council Area of Imo State under the aegis of “Udodiri Ndom-Owere Nchi-Ise”, which comprises of the whole five (5) Autonomous Communities of the five clans of Owerri Town, was on Saturday, April 20th, 2019, joyfully celebrated some respected mothers and women in the municipality whom they described as women of substance and also honored some of their husbands with chieftaincy titles.
Some of the women and husbands from Owerri town who were recognized, respected and honoured because of their various contributions towards community development are:” A repute Radio Presenter/Broadcaster with the Imo Broadcasting Cooperation, IBC, Mrs.Ngozi Patricia Ihekaire, Lady Joy Victor Ekeocha, the Secretary-General of Ndom Owerri, and Hon. Chief Leonard Osuji,(Ebubeagu)who was awarded a chieftaincy title of ” Ochi-Udo of Owere”, amongst few others who bagged various award of honour.
Expressing her profound joy, the President General of Udodiri Ndom Owere Nchi-Ise,Mrs. Stella Amadi, thanked God for keeping them (all the members of the women group alive) to the 2019 women ceremony, even as she described the event as a huge success.
The PG, Mrs.Amadi, while speaking disclosed that the women collectively decided to honour and respect some few individuals in Owerri Municipal especially those who have added values positively in Owerri town, even as she described their award as a well-deserved prizes for their respective positive impact towards the unity, progress and love in the Owerri as one people bond in love.
The women PG, however, encouraged the beneficiaries to see the opportunity as a means to continue good works.
Responding, some of the receipts, Hon. Chief Leonard Osuji, Ebubeagu, expressed delight to have bestowed with the chieftaincy title of “Ochi-Udo”, which according to him must not relent in his lifestyle as a peacemaker.
Ebubeagu, therefore, described his honor as an award well deserved based on his merit.
He furthermore described himself as a freedom fighter who has suffered a whole lot of intimidation, humiliation and hate speeches for the sake of Owerri peace, unity and progress.
Ochi-Udo Osuji, however, vowed and promised to continue to keep/maintain peace.
Chief Osuji, who is a leader of PDP in Owerri Municipal, expressed optimism that the people of Owerri under the leadership of the Imo Gov. Elect, Rt.Hon.Emeka Ihedioha, shall rejoice, even as he lamented that they (Owerri people) suffered a whole lot of setback under the administration of the outgoing govt. of Gov.Rochas Okorocha.
“Gov.Okorocha messed up Owerri and Imo State, but Ihedioha has come to rebuild the State. His govt.would improve the standards of living, enhance capacity building, empower the people and boost the state economy with God’s wisdom, Imolites shall smile”, Osuji submitted.
Also, an illustrious son of Owerri Municipal, Hon. Ifeanyichukwu Ukaegbu, aka Biafra, who contested to represent Owerri Municipal State Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly 2019 PDP primaries, but did not succeed, thanked Ndom Owerri for choosing to honor those they have recommended but charged them to remain committed and focus towards the development of Owerri.
Hon. Ukaegbu described the women’s event as unity programme aimed at promoting peace amongst the people of Owerri.
Biafra, however, commended the women for voting PDP into power during the last general polls most especially for casting their votes for the Imo PDP Guber candidate, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha.
He also expressed hope that their long relocated Eke-Ukwu Market would be returned by Ihedioha shortly after 2019 May 29th Swearing-in-ceremony in Imo.
Adding his voice, Sir.Victor Ekeocha, who witnessed and graced the event for the seek of his wife, Mrs. Ekeocha, the Secretary General of the Women, harped on the need for all to preach and embrace peace in Owerri municipal in particular and Imo State at large.
He enjoined the women to continue to dwell strictly on peace, unity, and love, stated that love conquers all.
