REACTION TO  PDP’s HAIR-RAISING PRESS STATEMENT ON YESTERDAY’S JUDGMENT IN RESPECT OF LANGTANG NORTH LGC CHAIRMANSHIP TENURE

It is not in the character of the All Progressives Congress, APC to comment on all issues raised by the ever-confused PDP in Plateau state. However, there is an urgent need to react for record purposes against the party’s bogus and vague claims of self-righteousness. We observe that while celebrating yesterday’s  High Court judgment in favour of one-year extension of Joshua Laven Ubandoma’s tenure as Langtang North LGC Chairman, the party has shamelessly refused to commend the Judge and the judgment.

If anything, credit must be given to Governor Simon Bako for restoring the People’s hope and confidence in the judiciary and the rule of law since he took over the governance of the state in May 2015, in which Laven Ubandoma stands as a major beneficiary.

The PDP in Plateau State, we must say, remains a congregation of hypocrites and ingrates. Whenever anything does not go its own selfish way, it cries a hoax. The party instead of swallowing its pride for once and commending governor Lalong for upholding the rule of law by implementing court judgments, rulings, and orders, it has shamelessly refused to do so.

John Akans, the party’s spokesman who has totally lost his bearing and who no longer knows his right from his left, in the press statement on the wake of yesterday’s judgment, was rather busy thanking Laven as a dogged fighter and the people of for their support! Not even Justice Ishaku Kunda who delivered the judgment in their favour is worth any commendation.

The APC is not surprised by the PDP’s selective methods of praise for wrongdoers and condemnation of good people.

We cannot forget in a hurry when on the eve of the last local government election, before the same Justice Ishaku Kunda who served as the vacation judge ruled on whether the PDP would participate or not, their lead counsel, Barrister Edward  Pwajok SAN praised the same judge as a very upright, transparent and steadfast judge. But as soon as he passed his judgment in accordance with the law which did not go in their favour, they condemned and insulted him virulently and called him all sorts of names. Can anyone really take these hallelujah singers in the morning and crucifiers in the evening seriously?

For the records, the erstwhile PDP administration in the State under Da Jonah David Jang was notorious for its unprecedented disrespect, contempt and serial abuse for court rulings,  judgments, and orders.

The general public is well aware of how the Governor Jang administration refused to swear in late Chief Dan Dul who the Court had declared the winner of the same Langtang North LGC election. This was the fate that befell democracy and rule of law in the state until the advent of the Lalong administration which promptly obeyed the judgment and swore the late Dan Dul in.

It is needless to recount how Governor Jang stood his grounds against the court ruling on Alhaji Mohammad Zakari who was declared winner of the Wase LGC Chairmanship election. The same rebuff was exhibited against the Tribunal’s declaration of late Mr. Iliya Amagon, Jang’s former Headboy at Government Secondsry School, Kuru, as Chairman of Bokkos LGC.

Our memories are still fresh when the PDP administration in the state subverted with reckless abandon the mandates of Daniel Kungmi ( Mikang) Late Hitler Dadi (Langtang South) and Dr Mohammed Sale (Kanam). They all had rulings in their favour which then-Governor Jang refused to implement by swearing them in.

At this juncture, we make bold to remind the opposition PDP that it was the same Governor Lalong who, as a trained lawyer and firm believer in the rule of law, respected the Tribunal’s Judgment by gracious swearing-in, Joshua Ubandoma Laven, as Chairman of Langtang North LGC in 2019, which would have been a taboo under a PDP administration.

There is no doubt that in comparative terms, the impeccable democratic credentials of the governor and the APC administration in the state especially for its respect for the Court’s Judgments are unequaled.

The PDP’s reaction to the judgment is simply HAIR-RAISING and ridiculous. In this context, we urge the PDP in Plateau State to stop behaving like an ostrich in the present circumstance.

We learnt the PDP’s violent disposition has just again been manifested in the Langtang North Local Government Secretariat where  Joshua Ubandoma Laven and the PDP supporters have forcefully broken in to occupy it. We understand incalculable damages have been wreaked on the property at the Secretariat.

We call on security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further loss and destruction of property.

We implore Barr.  Zulfa Rimven, the Executive Chairman of Langtang North LGC, the APC family and citizens of Langtang North LGA to remain calm as our party firmly believe in justice taking its course.

Signed:

Hon. Sylvanus Namang

APC State Publicity Secretary
