Two identified policemen and others now on the run have been accused of breaking into the home of two brothers, 20-year-old Fatai Showumi Shina, who is a spare parts dealer, and 25-year-old Samuel Toyosi, at about 11:30pm on July 15, 2022.
According to an available report, the policemen and four others claimed to have come from the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
They said they were of the Force Investigation Bureau and Special Tactical Squad.
After brutalizing Shina and Toyosi, the policemen used their Automated Teller Machine cards to withdraw N1.35 million and equally took the $5,000 they found in the wardrobe of their home at 15, Oseyintola Street, Ifako-Ijaiye in Agege, Lagos State.
One of them has been identified as a serving Police Office, while the other is already retired.
The team was said to have been led by one Friday Enobaghare, aka Curtis Black General.
They were said to have been heavily armed, dressed in jackets inscribed with the letter FIB-STS.
The brothers said after turning their apartment upside down without discovering any incriminating document, the officers reportedly hauled the occupants into separate waiting vehicles having seized their phones and went along with them in their car.
One of them said: “On the road, they said they were taking us to Area B Command, Apapa for further interrogation before being flown to Abuja the next day.
“First, they took us to the front of Red House Police Station, Iju, where we were mercilessly tortured.
“They left again to the front of Meiran Police Station, where the beating continued until we were forced to disclose our account details.
“Having discovered N1.7 million in Fatai’s account, the officers told him to give them his ATM pin with which they withdrew N1,350,000.00 using different POS machines.”
It was gathered that the victims were able to get the name of their leader, while he was browsing during the torture.
They used Google to search for the name and got his picture.
They called a top police officer related to them in Abuja and he directed them to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, who advised that a petition should be written to Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.
After writing the petition, the victims called the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who informed the Divisional Police Officer, Iju Division.
The DPO then drafted policemen to the hideout of the said Police Officers from Abuja, where the two suspects were arrested.
Two of them, including the gang leader, who happened to be a serving Police Officer, was arrested, while the four others are still on the run, with sources saying assorted weapons were reportedly recovered from them.
Hundeyin has confirmed the arrest of the two suspects, adding that the investigation was ongoing.
