Tragedy struck the people of Gada Biyu community, a Tiv settlement, when a Primary 4 school pupil was killed while many were injured following the collapse of a classroom block on Friday.
The young lad, Shautaha Orduwe, died a day after the tragedy following injuries sustained from the incident.
The Executive Chairman of Obi Local Government, Honorable Isa Mohammed Sani, who was at the community, sympathized with the parents of the deceased and prayed for the repose of the pupil.
He, however, called on the Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) to always ensure that contractors construct their buildings with standard structures so as to avoid the reoccurrence of such in the future.
The Chairman also appealed to the host community to always report any serious crack on a school structure to the concerned authorities for necessary action
He also advised the NSUBEB Chairman on the need to set up a permanent monitoring team to monitor school buildings in the State, stating further that it will go a long way in averting such a terrible situation.
The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr.Kasim Mohammed Kasim, who visited Gada Biyu on Monday morning, sympathized with the deceased family.
The classroom block of the LGEA Primary School, Gada Biyu, in the Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State has recently collapsed and claimed the life of a school pupil, Shautaha Orduwe.
The deceased, a 10-year-old has since been buried in his hometown following the unfortunate incident over the weekend.
A delegation of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education (NSUBEB) led by the Executive Chairman, Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased school child on Monday.
Speaking during the condolence visit in Gada biyu, Dr. Kassim, admonished the mourning family to view the passing of their child as a divine ordeal that no one can evade.
According to him, while death is profoundly painful, it is an integral part of the human experience that must be accepted with grace.
NSUBEB chairman assured the community that a new block of classrooms will be constructed and pledged two slots for the community in the ongoing recruitment of rural teachers.
Dr. Kassim was accompanied by Permanent Members and Directors of the board among others where they also visited the primary school for an on-the-spot assessment.
Responding on behalf of the family, Francis Orduwe, the uncle to the deceased, thanked the NSUBEB chairman and his management team for identifying with them and prayed for safe return to their various destinations.
