Tragedy: How 18 People Were Burnt To Ashes In Bauchi Auto-Crash

About eighteen were said to have been feared death in a ghastly motor accident in the late hours of yesterday.

The sad event according to witness occurred in Buzaye village along Bauchi- Jos road.

It was gathered that a truck had lost control and hit the on-coming bus with the occupants causing a major accident.

Eye witness said, both the two vehicles caught fire burning all the eighteen passengers as there was no rescue team.

Confirming the incident Bauchi Police Command had said there was a fatal motor vehicles accident along Bauchi Jos Road, involving a DAF Truck with registration number XC-675-BAU and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BAU-148-XR loaded with 18 passengers at Buzaye village, Bauchi.

Mohammed Haruna the Command Spokesman made the statement in a chat with newsmen in Bauchi.

Haruna added that the accident occurred when the Truck heading towards Jos had a head on collision with the loaded 18 seater bus coming from FCT Abuja as a result; the bus was gutted by fire.

Police patrol team attached to GRA Division and men of fire service from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic ( ATAP)rushed to the scene, put off the fire and rushed the victims to ATBU Teaching Hospital Bauchi for medical attention.

Meanwhile, Eighteen Victims were certified dead, among whom Seventeen were burnt beyond recognition and Corpses deposited at the Mortuary for post-mortem examinations.

So far, Two deceased victims identified are (Bus Driver)Alhaji Adamu maijama’a, male and 45 years of Jahum, Bauchi and(Passenger) Yahaya Umar male and 41 years of Unguwan Dawaki, Bauchi.

He said the Case under is investigation and effort is ongoing to ascertain actual cause of the accident.

Mohammed urged members of the public whose relatives travelled from Abuja to Bauchi on Sunday to go the motor parks in Abuja and check the passengers manifest or report at the ATBU Teaching hospital Bauchi for identification.
