Yakubu Busari

A former Senator Representing Plateau Northern Senatorial District,Sen. Istisfanus Davou Gyang has said that the current performance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has in no way threatened his re-election bid but it rather boost the profile and also the signing into law the new amended electoral act, abolishing indirect primary and don’t forget the exercise is by consensus and direct primary.

He disclosed that the signing  of the new amended electoral act into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was a major boost for his re-election bid in 2027 general election.

Gyang stated this at PPMC during his stakeholders interface with the Bassa community in Jos.

He said, the president has performed credible in the last few years in office under his Renewed Hope Agenda towards the transformation of the country .

Gyang stressed that the electoral act agitation was in the minds of Nigerian on the issue of transmission of results which the National Assembly adopted a high breed approached of combining electronic and manual join together to resolve grey areas with network challenges.

He acknowledged that the new electoral law still has some challenges in some parts of the country, which is debatable,, because this is a fallout from the electoral act that some of us who will be going for the 9th senate,, myself particularly, will take off for subsequent amendment.

Sen Istisfanus explained that, very importantly, the provision that reduces the emergence of candidates in primary election of political parties by consensus or direct primary does away with the indirect primary of delegates election participation regime that surcharges the Nigerian populace from the active leadership recruitment process.

He maintained that the people now have direct expression of their mandate and their franchise,, which goes to reduce the manipulation of the process,, but subjecting candidates directly to the process,, this is where you can find a better expression of democracy.

Gyang clarified that what happened during the performance of the sitting President is what will determine the current performance has no way threatened him, rather boosts the re-election bid.

However, don’t forget the primary is by consensus, and his performance has earned him the right to be the consensus candidate, so it is a good saying that his emergence as the consensus is a mission accomplished.

Gyang lauded the e-registration exercise going on across the country, explaining that APC is the party that democratise membership recruitment process by opening an online platform for all members to join without any duress, willingness, and consciousness. That is why we witnessed a massive influx of Nigerians coming to join.
