A group South East Governance Network (SEGON) has called on the South East Governors to convene security forum in order to address the high level of insecurity in that part of the country.
The group in a statement signed by its president, Jude Ohanele and its Special Rapporteur on security Ifeanyi Anyanwu, said that the group; “has brainstormed on the high level of insecurity in the states of the South East zone of Nigeria. Incidences of high profile criminal activities such as kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and assassination among others have been on the rise.

According to SEGON in its statement; “it notes that if nothing is done urgently to address the worsening problem of insecurity, socioeconomic activities in the zone may grind to a halt in the near future. There is a direct relationship between the standard of governance and the growing insecurity in the zone.”
“The problem of insecurity may not be effectively addressed, if the wide gaps existing between the people and the governments are not bridged. The full participation of the peoplein addressing the problem is most crucial, because security is everybody’s business,” it said.
Speaking further in its statement, SEGON hence calls on governmentsat all levels in the South East to convene periodic, sustainable, and all inclusive governance and security forumsto enable the people to collaborate with governments to solveholistically the security problems facing the people.
