Senator (General) Jeremiah Timbut Useni Receives Grand Merit Award from Nigerian Shippers

Yakubu Busari

Gubernatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State in the last general election, Senator (General) Jeremiah Timbut Useni has received a grand merit award from The Shippers’ Association, Jos.

Yiljap Abraham ,Media Consultant to Senator (General) Jeremiah Timbut Useni, said the award was handed to General Useni at the just concluded Annual General Meeting of the Association held in Jos.

A statement prepared by Publicity Secretary of TSA, Dr  I.J. Nubuya,  explains that the Merit Award was for Useni’s contributions to the development of The Shippers’ Association (TSA) Jos.

“It is also in appreciation of his invaluable support and contributions as GRAND PATRON of TSA, Jos toward the sustainability of the Association.”

The Shippers’ Associations generally are voluntary and non-profit transportation cooperatives which arrange for the domestic or international shipment of members’ cargo.

They negotiate for the physical movement of the members’ cargo with motor carriers, railroads, ocean carriers, air carriers, and other transportation service providers at favourable volume rates.

TSA Jos is affiliated to the Nigerian Shippers’ Council which regulates cargo transportation at Nigerian ports through the control of tariff, rates, charges and other economic services.

General Useni was at one time Nigeria’s Minister of Transport  as  well as that of the Federal Capital Territory.

The Shippers’ Association acknowledged that General Useni has over the years fully supported the activities and programmes of both the Plateau Chamber of Commerce and the Shippers’ Association.

“You have been our pillar of support over the years as amply shown by the substantial donation you generously gave us at our AGM/Magazine Fundraising 2019; for which all of us in The Shippers’ Association Jos are indelibly grateful to you, Sir.”

“We salute and profoundly appreciate the perfect Gentleman, General J. T. Useni, the GRAND PATRON of TSA, Jos.”

General Useni, represented by  Hon. James Stephen Pam, thanked the association for honouring him.

“l accept it with all my heart and promise to add more value to the programmes and activities the Shippers’ association by working closely with both officials and members.

“My doors are wide open for further consultations on how all people of goodwill and patriotic zeal can collaborate in salvaging and promoting our economy to bring prosperity to Nigerians generally and Plateau people in particular.”

“However, I appeal that you do all that you can to ensure honesty and improve haulage services from the nation’s ports to the hinterlands.”

It is the expectation of the Shippers’ Association that the grand meritorious Award will spur General JT Useni as the Grand Patron to do more for the TSA, Jos.
