Salihu Sweeps APC Senatorial Primary In Adamawa Central

Mustapha Salihu, the former governorship candidate and ex-National Vice Chairman (North-East) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has emerged as the party’s candidate for the Adamawa Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections

Ahmed Yushua, the chairman of the electoral committee, Adamawa Central Senatorial Primary election, announced the results at the end of the exercise. He described the election as peaceful, transparent, and conducted in accordance with party guidelines and electoral laws.

According to the official results, Salihu secured a commanding 147,219 votes to defeat eight other aspirants in the keenly contested race. His closest challenger, Saidu Hayatu Galadima, polled 32,436 votes, while Aliyu Abdulhameed Abbati garnered 14,833 votes.

Other contestants included Hapsat Ibrahim Modibbo, who scored 9,679 votes, Aishatu Aliyu with 6,179 votes, Umar Buba Bindir with 3,930 votes, Rabi Andrew with 2,620 votes, Aminu Iya Abbas who secured 2,182 votes, and AbdulAziz Nyako who polled 1,362 votes.

The outcome of the primary sparked celebrations among Salihu’s supporters and party loyalists, many of whom described the victory as a reflection of his long-standing influence within the APC and his grassroots connection across the senatorial district.

In his acceptance speech, Salihu expressed gratitude to delegates, party leaders, and supporters for the trust placed in him. He pledged to provide inclusive leadership and quality representation if elected into the Senate during the 2027 general elections.

He also called on other aspirants and party members to unite behind the APC ahead of the polls, stressing that collective effort and internal harmony would be key to the party’s success in Adamawa State.

The APC primaries in Adamawa have continued to draw attention across the state as the party positions itself for a competitive outing in the 2027 elections.
