Re: Publisher Of Popular Northern Tabloid, Desert Herald In Trouble!

The attention of FUZA Communication Services Limited publishers of DESERT HERALD Newspaper and Magazine and the owners of one of the most widely read news websites, www.desertherald.com has been drawn to a  mischievous, sponsored story published in one of the many unknown, new comers fraudulent websites that are into the business of journalism as arm chair practitioners that are always ready to be used, to be compromised, as bootlickers as long as there is a huge pay from their sponsor(s).

Going through the whole sponsored story that lacked focus, substance and exposes the sense of failure to research very well so as to convince even the most gullible reader. Even an illiterate that wants to engage in a business of shareholding we believe must have sufficient knowledge of the paper work, the legal procedures of acquiring such shares, his share capital and even the business plan of that organisation. A shareholder cannot invest blindly in a business.

The said concocted and fabricated reports sponsored by those that are very much frustrated by the indepth and investigative stories of DESERT HERALD about their woeful failure as leaders, their several acts of corruption, mismanagement of insecurity and using security votes as a conduit-pipe even as their innocent people are being killed and kidnapped every day claimed that the publisher of DESERT HERALD, Mallam Tukur Mamu (Dan-Iyan Fika) is in trouble and that the non-existence ‘shareholder(s)’ of the company are after him and threatening to go to court for failure to declare the assets and profits of the company since 2008.

In the said story and as expected there was NO single mention of the name(s) of the so called shareholder(s) of DESERT HERALD and the ‘millions’ they or he invested in the company. There was also NO record or instances provided of ANY meeting with the investor(s) or even their/his representatives to justify the claims in the said story. The purpose is to use criminal means and to manipulate the court as consistent with the character and attitude of the sponsor to halt the production of DESERT HERALD because for him and owing to the recent publications of the paper that exposes so much about his misrule and manipulation of public resources, DH has become a threat that must be crushed through the back door in the court. Certainly, like many others like him he will not succeed.

For the records and as it appears in ALL our official documents, DESERT HERALD is own solely by the publisher, Mallam Tukur Mamu. In fact, that is why in all our official correspondences and records he is referred to as the Publisher/Chairman. No single person can earn that title or position in a paper with two or multiple shareholders especially when a particular ‘shareholder’ is said to have “invested millions into the business”. DESERT HERALD is being managed and financed singlehandedly by our Publisher/Chairman, Mallam Tukur Mamu and with his hard earned resources.

It is myopic and laughable for one to even imagine that an investor will invest millions of naira and still wait for as long as over 10 years without seeing any returns, profit from his investment not to talk of the so called capital he invested.

The claim of blackmail or fake news against DESERT HERALD is equally indicting against the character that sponsored the said story and wants to go to court through proxy. Does that mean that he is in agreement as a so called shareholder(s) with all the ‘blackmails’ and ‘fake news’ DH is feeding its readers with all these years or that he suddenly realized it because he is directly affected by the many stories of DH that exposes his capitalist oriented leadership and insincerity in handling the increasing insecurity in his state? Certainly and despite whatever political power, DESERT HERALD or Tukur Mamu will never be intimidated or succumb to cheap blackmail by an opportunist whose previous records and antecedents lacks decency and honesty.

In the said sponsored, misleading and diversionary story that has failed to put its arguments rationally, it was mentioned that in a recent report of DH, the paper tried to blackmail Governor Bello Matawalle about the recent visit of Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Gumi to Zamfara and how insecurity escalated thereafter due to the insincerity of the governor to honour his truce with the bandits. The actual story with the caption; “Insecurity In Zamfara: How Governor Matawalle Fuels Recent Killings”, was exclusively published by DH and is actually rated by professionals as one of the most in depth and investigative stories on insecurity and its associated fraud and politics in Zamfara State under the current administration. For their information, that story came first amongst the top ten that were selected on similar issues on insecurity in the North West Nigeria by the Protection Rights of Journalists of Africa, PRJA, and we are due to go to the headquarters of PRJA in Cape Town, South Africa in September for the award presentation. Pictures of  the upcoming event that will further confirm the professionalism demonstrated by the writers of the said story that has exposed so much and fueled the recent campaign of blackmail against DH and its publisher will be published Insha Allah for our readers and particularly the detractors that are labelling it as blackmail.

In DH, we have set a record for ourselves over the last 16 years that is why even in the said sponsored story they have to acknowledged the fact that DH is a popular northern tabloid. We will gladly welcome any decision to go to court to challenge the fraud he masterminded in an attempt to silence our very strong voice and wide readership.

Lastly, as a responsible paper that has contributed immensely towards proffering lasting solution to insecurity in Nigeria through well documented and several published reports, DESERT HERALD remains more than ever before committed in doing whatever it can to contribute in reducing the crisis of insecurity Nigeria finds itself. We recognize in particular the efforts of the National Security Adviser, the Director General of the DSS, the Chief of Army Staff and our brother, the Inspector General of Police.
