Politicians Are Major Obstacle In Civil Service In Bauchi – Committee

The Committee set up to identify issues of promotion in the state civil service on the appointment of Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries said it has identified politicization as one of the greatest obstacles in the service.

 

Chairman of the committee, Alhaji. Gambo Magaji who was the MD/CEO of DUGGE Management Consultant LTD gave the disclosure while submitting the report to the governor at the Government House today in Bauchi.

 

Gambo, said that apart from the politicization, the committee were able to identify other obstacles in the areas of improper and poor compilation and assessment of Annual Performance Evaluation  Report and lack of personnel training for advancement in their respective careers among some civil servants in the state, urging the government to implement the report.

 

Magaji Added that during its assignment work the committee discovered Six Permanent Secretaries and Thirty-Eight Directors were qualified for appointment to the post of Head of Service and Permanent Secretaries respectively.

 

In his speech, Governor Bala Mohammed said his decision to inaugurate the Committee was to inject in the system quality personnel with requisite qualifications for optimal service delivery.

 

While appreciating the Committee for a wonderful job done, governor Bala assured of his administration readiness to implement the committee report with the urgency it deserves to reinvigorate the service in the state

 

He said the report has marked a beginning of a new dawn in the era of civil service in the state, noting that the report will address some major challenges, shortcomings from both governments, civil service, and private sectors respectively.

 

Bala, also said that his administration will ensure justice to all in the promotion of civil servants in the state. Adding that only those who deserve to be promoted will be promoted and based on merit without any godfather.

 

He, therefore, urged the civil servants in the state to put in their best at their respective places of work to move the state forward.

 

Governor Bala then disclosed that another Committee will be set up for speedy implementation of the report.
