Plateau Youth Council Northern Zone Rejects Ethnic Political Marginalization By A Single Tribe

Yakubu Busari

The Plateau Youth Council, PYC,  Northern Coordinating Body has rejected political marginalization by a single tribe and impunity of imposing an incompetent person, considering the diverse ethnic groups residing in the Plateau Northern  Senatorial District of the State.

The PYC spoke at a Press conference held recently in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, while responding to questions and answers from the media, as they alleged.

The Northern Coordinator, Sam Chiroma, also described the emergence and imposition of Sen. Pam Mwadkon Dachung as an embarrassment, stating that he couldn’t present a single bill or provide dividends of democracy to the zone in his two years as unacceptable to the people of Plateau North.

According to him, since the return to democracy in 1999, only Senator Timothy Adudu from Bassa Local Government Area, under the platform of the ANPP, has become a senator for one tenure.

He stated that despite the political strength of the diverse ethnic groups residing in the zone, a particular tribe had continued to dominate the zone both in appointments and elective positions in federal House of Representatives.

Chiroma cited the Plateau Central geopolitical zone, where Senator Joshua Chibi Dariy,e from a small minority tribe of Mushere in Bokkos LGA emerged and ruled Plateau State for 8 years and went to the senate under the dominance of Ngas and Mwalgwul.

He also stressed out that the Plateau Southern Senatorial District, where the Tarok dominate, Late Senator Cosmos and Late Istifanus Longjan and Lalong is currently serving senator.

Comr. Sam reiterated the need for other tribes to be given the chance to vie for the seat, even if they’re one of the smallest tribes that are the residents in the zone, for fairness and equity in governance.

He appealed that the forthcoming election should provide a considerate opportunity for free and fair elections to all and sundry, considering the numerical political value of Jos North, which is home to Plateau Southern and Central geopolitical zones as administrative headquarters.

Chiroma also called on the Plateau Youth group to shun politics of religion, blackmail, dominance, and imposition of candidates from a single tribe, as the statement alleged.
