Plateau Northern Youth Passes Vote Of No Confidence On Sen Mwadkon, Calls For His Immediate Recall

Yakubu Busari

The Coordinator, Plateau Youth Council, Northern Senatorial Zone, has passed a vote of no confidence in Senator Pam Dachungyang Madkon that they have commenced the process for his recall due to poor performance without a single bill to his credit since he was elected.

Spokesperson for the Plateau Northern Youth Coordinator Comrade Samson Y. CHiroma made this known in a press conference held against Senator Dachungyang at Civil Service Club, Fidelis Tapgun way, Jos.

According to him, it is with a high sense of responsibility and service that he addresses journalists on this second day of a brand new year, 2026.

He said the outgoing year, 2025, was quite eventful and challenging as the Plateau State Youth Council of the Northern Senatorial Zone of the state had engaging moments with various strata of our society.

These engagements have not only yielded fruits but have further enhanced understanding, respect, and social cohesion amongst our people.

You will agree with me that the peaceful festivities we just witnessed across Plateau State and particularly Plateau North Senatorial Zone are not only commendable but a testament to the determination and commitment of the PYC and other public-spirited organisations committed to restoring the status of Plateau State as the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.

Therefore, we want to use this opportunity to commend the entire people of Plateau State for their efforts at rebuilding the hitherto broken social fabrics of our society.

Together, the future is bright for everyone regardless of ethnicity, political affiliation and religious beliefs if we sustain the current efforts.

Sadly, the PYC Northern Senatorial District joins all peace-loving people of Plateau State to condemn in strong terms the last night, December 31, 2025 violent attack on Bum community, Vwang District of Jos South Local Government Area where another score of precious human lives were lost including women and children.

This latest attack on hapless citizens proves that we are not yet out of the woods.

We therefore call on all and sundry, especially traditional and religious leaders as well as security operatives to ensure that perpetrators of this renewed onslaught do not go unpunished to deter others.

As we pray for the repose of the souls of the departed, it is our prayer that those injured in this senseless act receive speedy healing.

Similarly, we are not unmindful of the happenings within the political space within our dear state.

As much as we view these happenings as positive developments, we urge all political gladiators in the state to always put the interest of the people over and above any personal interest as this remains the only sure way to guarantee all-round development.

However, as a youth-led group with overarching interests in the advancement and development of Plateau State, we have watched with sadness and dismay the abysmal performance of some elected and political appointees of Plateau descent whose underperformance in their respective offices leaves much to be desired.

Of particular concern to the PYC is the woeful performance of the Senator representing Plateau North in the National Assembly, Senator Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang.

There is no gainsaying the fact that since the election of Senator Dachungyang to represent the zone, not much has been heard from him either on the floor of the red chambers or even in his immediate constituency.

In other words, Dachungyang’s poor performance on the floor of the senate constitutes an embarrassment to the good people of the zone he claims to represent.

It is on record today that since he assumed office, Senator Dachungyang has done little or nothing to improve the lot of his constituent majority of whom are either living in squalid conditions due to violent conflicts of the recent past or grappling with lack of opportunities being enjoyed by their counterparts from other senatorial zones of the state.

The latter being a fallout of the poor performance and weak leadership of Senator Dachungyang.

Due to this unhealthy development, the entire people of Plateau North Senatorial Zone are visibly lagging and are made to roam like sheep without a shepherd.

In the spirit of fairness, the PYC made several overtures to Senator Dachungyang to make him see reasons why he needs to engage his constituents in charting a way forward for the zone by tapping into the vast human and material resources that abound in the zone. But, each time our effort was made with a brick wall as the senator does not operate an open-door leadership.

In other words, Senator Dachungyang is not accessible to the people of Plateau North Senatorial Zone.In view of this unfortunate development, the PYC is left with no option but to initiate the recall process of the senator.

Painful as this decision may seem, we have concluded that for the zone to enjoy any meaningful development, representatives like Senator Dachungyang must be shown the way out to serve as deterrence to those who may want to treat the mandate of the people with levity.

It will also interest you, gentlemen of the press that the PYC has also beamed its searchlight on other representatives of the zone with a view to initiating such processes where any of them is found wanting. What we demand is accountability from those who are representing us at the state and national levels.

The era where people just occupy public and operate as if it is a personal enterprise is gone. Political office holders must be accountable to the people they represent.

Governance must be participatory and all-inclusive for us to enjoy the dividends of democracy. Anything short of this is not only unacceptable to PYC but, must be addressed squarely and promptly. Thank you for listening and I wish us a prosperous 2026.
