Plateau Govt Signs Mou To Improve Electricity Power Supply With Shemankar Ltd

The Plateau State Government has signed an MoU with Shemankar Independent Power Project with the target of improving the megawatt Project of 110MW as provided by both the Nigerian Electricity Supply Company (UNESCO) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) toward remedying of energy deficit of over 300MW.

The Secretary to Plateau State Government, Hon Nanchang Samuel Jatau signed on behalf of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang at the little Rayfield Jos.

The Secretary to the state government expressed delight that the gesture would improve the supply of daily consumption of electricity in the state.

Jatau disclosed that the 25 of July 2023 memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the government and Shemankar Valley Limited was a welcome development to the state through the agenda of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang pillars policy of increasing the energy sector.

He also said. plateau state has a daily energy supply average of about 110MW as provided by both the Nigerian Electricity Supply Company (UNESCO) and Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and an energy deficit of over 300MW.

Jatau maintained that this energy gap must be bridged for any meaningful and accelerated development of our dear state.

“We are proud to say that the government is inaugurating the committee that will coordinate the full implementation of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) and carry out the inauguration of the technical committee.

The amendment of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that removed Power from the exclusive list and allows state regulation of the energy sector, has come at no better time than now in line with our mantra of the time is now, he said.

In line with this, the state government is actively putting structure in place for Plateau state energy market and the Energy Regulatory Commission as a requirement for State Control of the energy sphere “, he explained.

Jatau Samuel reiterated that the government has equally established the Plateau State Energy Corporation, developed energy Policy documents, and developed the Plateau State Green Strategy in partnership with the Tear Fund. All are geared towards a booming energy sector to improve the socio-economic development of our people,
