The Plateau state House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon Saleh Shehu Yipmong has thrown his weight behind the agitation for local government autonomy in Nigeria.
Yipmong revealed, he has been an advocate for Local Government autonomy, he said, “this is because for the fact that when we were growing, we met a functional local government autonomy and felt the impact.
Speaking to Journalists at the Plateau State House of Assembly on Monday to mark 2017 Worker’s Day, he said, that’s particularly in the third tier of government the people have witnessed the autonomy working at the grassroots level but along the lane we lost its completely.
He added that now is another opportunity to reposition the country democracy through the third tier of government, “if we don’t do it, it posterity will judge us since now we are helm at the affairs, so we can’t say no to that agitation.
According to him, the members of the 8th assembly are kind to implement it because they are people who are enthusiastic with strong determination and see to the nitty gritty of the people’s desire.
He noted that as soon as the bill comes before the 8th assembly they are ready to pass it and implement it into law as the people are more instrumental to the law.
Hon Yipmong said the House has two most important bills which are the local government autonomy and Plateau Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) which he said he encourage the people to vote for the candidate of their choice .
“We believe that the people desire local government autonomy, I don’t see any sign of the bill having problem when it eventually come to the House of Assembly”, he added.
At the 2017 May celebration, the Deputy Speaker commended the resilience of workforce around Plateau, Nigeria and the world over for their dedicated service to humanity which contributes meaningful development that bear direct impact to the people of the state.
He urged them to be peace loving and support the Government of Hon. Lalong which put it quest always for the good people of plateau State.
