The Plateau State Chairman of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) ,Hon.Bitrus Boyi has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to overhaul the country Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to meet up the current challenges of government interfering in the system by saying we should copy the South Africa Electoral process.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Journalists in Jos,Boyi says ,we need to overhaul our electoral system even if it meant amending the constitution to employ the process that south Africa is using .
He said that before you become the independent electoral commission Chairman in South Africa you must go through congress from your own ward level , local government were people must nominate you and endorse before you become the INEC Chairman.
According to him, the situation in Nigeria is quite different Mr President will wakeup overnight and appoint anybody he chose and remove him at will so if smaller countries are forging ahead we need to grow.
In the area of exchange rate Togo money had more value than Naira so also Ghana today you need to spend 200 to get Ghana cedis.
He pointed out that this is Nigeria that our naira was stronger than them in all ramification Nigerians are suffering , the institution are so terrible why because we used to have ministry of sports and youth development but today they have changed to national sport commission as you changed it the heart of the people .It is the same people that are there the same process with the same mindset wearing the same corrupt minds in the system is sad .
Boyi lambasted the system that we are not happy with what is happening in Nigeria because , Nigeria has enough resources in the country we are also blessed with human capital development and materials resources .
” Nigerians are supposed to leave a very happy lives surpassing the global benchmark for a day meal but it is unfortunate that despite the abandoned deposit from God almighty Nigerian are still suffering and feeding from garbage.
” Out of about 80% of the youth in this country nearly 50% are jobless look at the rate of inflation in Nigeria has risen from 16% in 12 years to over 44% now .He explained further that our roads are very bad so traveling from Jos to Abuja the potholes won’t allow you drive safely.
“Boyi reiterated that the journey of 3 hours would take 6 hours due to the deplorable stage to reach Jos and because of the bad road accidents are on rampant creating rooms for criminal elements to attacked people sometimes kidnapped them ,”.
He stated that Nigeria bad leadership had continued to increase hardship especially the agriculture sector that is mostly the employer of labour is affected due bad governance not that we don’t have what take to live a better life.
Bitrus complained bitterly how our pass government underdeveloped the country pushing Nigerians into momental hardship with the resources on ground to herald the process of developing our own small and medium industries.
He stressed that Nigerian universities, College of Educations and Polytechnics are graduating thousands of graduates with most of them are still jobless searching white collar job simply because our government are good in making policies statement that are not implemented which plunge the country into serious economy hardship.
Boyi noted that where these people have taken Nigeria is very unfortunate their programs and policy doesn’t have any impact to Nigerian .
He maintained that the removal of oil subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the day of his oath taking ceremony that one action he took brought his government to it kneel pushing Nigerians into suffering and begging to survive.
He disclosed that the country most get it right if we must move forward ,Mr President should appoint cabinet before embarking on the subsidy removal because it is only few Nigerian that are beneficiaries,it was wrong step without sense of sincerity .
Boyi blamed the president Bola Tinubu for retaining the GMD of petroleum calling on the government reshuffle the whole process and appoint credible Nigerian with track record of achievement to head it .
According to Boyi , with the population of over 230 million people Mr President had refused to appoint anyone to manage the petroleum sector is quite worrisome.
