PDP Governorship Candidate Condemns Rising Spate of Attacks On Journalists In Nasarawa State

The governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Nasarawa State has condemned the recent attack on Journalists by the ruling , All Progressives Congress under governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura as a threat to democracy.

Hon. David Ombugadu disclosed this when he visited Rabiu Omaku of the Universal Reporters an online news Platform who was battered by management of the Nasarawa State Pension Board and was admitted at the Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital, Lafia while snapping list of over 1000 Pensioners pested on the notice board been delisted from benefiting from pension.

Ombugadu in strong terms described the brutality on the Journalists as an affront to our democracy considering the stake of the press in nation building.

He however promised to present the ugly incident to the National Assembly especially at this electioneering period.

“If given the chance to represent the state come 2019 would change the narrative by ensuring that a level playing feild for media practitioners is in place”.

The governorship candidate also sympathised with the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Correspondents’ Chapel whose member was humiliated.

“The assault was geared towards silencing media practitioners in the State”.

Urging the concerned authorities to sanction the erring Civil Defense and public officers for committing crime against humanity.

“I urged Journalists to remain focused and should not be distracted by gullible public officers”.

In a related development, the Director General Communication, Strategy and Press Affairs to governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura ,Yakubu Lamai who visited the victim condemned the attack.

Describing the incident as unfortunate considering the role of media in reshaping the society, promising to report back to the governor.

Other core politicians that visited and condemned the attack also include the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, Labaran Maku and the candidate of the ruling party, Engr. A. A. Sule.

Others are the leadership of the Concerned Pensioners.

It could be recalled that Pensioners in the State drag the State governor to Industrial Court over percentage payment of their benefit for 36 months as the Court fixed 15/02/2019 for Judgement.
