The National Youth Service Corps has sworn in 1 936 corps members of the 2023 Batch A Stream II, deployed to Nasarawa State for their national service.

Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, NYSC Coordinator in the state said this at the swearing ceremony of the 2023 Batch A Stream II Orientation Course held at the Magaji Dan Yamusa NYSC Permanent Orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state on Friday.

According to Jikamshi, at the close of registration on Thursday, April 27, a total of 1936 corps members were duly registered, comprising 903 males and 1033 females.

Jikamshi congratulated the corps members who came all over the country for successfully completing their studies and availing themselves for national service to contribute their quotas to the development of the state.

“This set of corps members are responding with great zeal to all camp activities. They have demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm since they arrived camp.

“They have equally adjusted to the regimented camp life including the disciplined nature of the camp. Their high level of cooperation has helped a great deal in achieving a smooth administration of the camp so far,” he said.

He then urged the corps members to participate fully in camp activities during their three-week orientation course.

He also emphasized that the orientation camp is highly regimented hence the call on the corps members to participate in every activity on camp, obey all camp rules and regulations and respect camp officials and all constituted authority.

“I urge you to relate freely with your colleagues to enable you benefit immensely from one another and establish lasting relationship.

“I also urge you to work towards distinguishing yourselves for honours awards right from the camp. So do not be a passive on-looker but be actively involved and contribute your own quota to the success of the orientation course,” he said.

The NYSC Coordinator in Nasarawa state also reminded the Nasarawa state government of the scheme’s appeal for a new 3000 capacity Multi-purpose hall at the orientation camp as the present hall in the camp is grossly inadequate.

In an interview with newsmen, Hajiya Hannatu Bala-Abimiku, Nasarawa state Commissioner of Special Duties, Legal Matters and Youth Affairs assured the corps members of the state government responsibility to their welfare, security and general well-being.

“Like I said earlier, this set of corps members are one of the luckiest in the country because they have come to the safest state and we want them to utilize opportunities they get in the course of their staying here,” she said.

Bala-Abimiku who is also the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in the state said the state government is aware of the challenges bedeviling the NYSC in the state including the inadequate capacity of the Multi-purpose hall and plans have been concluded by the state government to commence work on a new hall.
