National Sugar Development Council Organizes Workshop For Industrialists In Jigawa

The National Sugar Development Council of Nigeria has organized a northern region sugar sensitization workshop for sugarcane producers with a view to sensitizing the agricultural industrialists in the country.

The workshop which was organized by the National Sugar Development Council in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government is aimed to educate the farmers.

Umar Mohammed who is from the Ministry of Agriculture said over 150 metric tons of sugarcane is expected to be produced after completion of Gagarawa Sugarcane Factory in Jigawa.

Explaining further he said that N1.5 billion was paid for the compensation of land to farmers who their lands were used for the factory in Gagarawa Village.

Adding further he said, after the take-off of the company, a clinic, and vocational training center, as well as a school and a mosque, will be built for the benefit of the host community.

He said about 1.5 hectares of land and 30 hectares of land will be utilized for the production of sugarcane in the state.

Umar said the challenges that Gagarawa Sugar Company is facing is the issues of water, adding that there is no available water on the ground, therefore the company will now rig water down to Gagarawa farmland for the production of sugarcane.

He assured that if the project is completed the factory will start normal operation around where 300 farm lands will be developed for sugarcane production in the area.

Also, Muhammed Aminu Muhammed urged the participant to make good use of what they learnt during the workshop.
